Question Do you start your own plants or purchase them?

I haven't started many plants from seeds. I usually purchase them because the cost is so low and I don't have a lot of space to start seedlings. I would love a greenhouse someday so I can.

Last year I did both --- the flower seeds I started didn't do as well as I had hoped and I am not sure what I did wrong. Maybe they were too wet.

Mostly, I start mine from seed. There are some that are just not worth the effort, though, so I buy the seedlings.

Most of my plants come from my father - I think he buys plants and grows them from seed!

I start my own cuccumbers, squash, and lettuce from seed but I buy my bell peppers and tomatoes. I may try experimenting and try to plant some tomato seeds indoors. My mama says you are supposed to plant the tomota seeds on Lincolns or is it Washington's birthday.

Mostly I buy them as seedlings.. I scour the area to find the ones that have more than one start in it, so when I am paying 50cents for a start, I may get two or three starts for the same price.

We mostly start things from seeds, the only exception is tomato plants.

I do a little bit of both. I like trying different tomato and pepper plants each year and alot I haven't found here so seed is best for that but even then I'll still pick up plants just in case mine don't do well.

I start ALL of mine from seed each year. I start enough to supply my garden, all of the neighbors' gardens, all of my friends' gardens, all of Freecycle's gardens... Last year, I started over 500 tomato plants and 100 pepper plants. LOL That's in addition to many other seeds started. I start eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, some herbs, and some flowers in the greenhouse--those are the ones I share. All others are seeded directly into the garden.

Although...a plant here and there always seems to jump into my cart when at the farm store during the spring--usually when they're on clearance for 10 cents or so--plus you get free pots and trays with each--they let you take as many as you want so I consider it my duty to adopt the poor, neglected seedlings.
