Question Do you use hanging pots with plants in to decorate outside

I haven't because they dry out so quickly. However I've seen some beautiful ones in the greenhouse and wonder if I should buy any?

How do you keep them from drying out?

    I have two out front.

I water them once a week and they seem to do okay.

Yes. I have a hanging basket of petunias every year. They are beautiful but a ton of work. Lots of "dead-heading" and need to water every day, sometimes twice a day. You can see a picture of the plant I usually get on Homestead Garden...that's my avatar

    I can't wait for spring.

Yes, I have them under my garage roof. I usually have geraniums and then I have a couple that I hang from a shepherds hook around my house. I just water them frequently. Yes, I agree. They are a lot of work! But, they sure are pretty.

Yes, several years ago I purchased a few self watering pots from gardeners supply online. They were a good investment they work great. I make up my own baskets.

I have a shepherd's hook in the backyard that holds two pots usually full of petunias in the summer. Even watering twice a day, and using the moisture retaining potting mix, they still wither when it gets hot.

My 90-year old neighbor, on the other hand, has a geranium in a basket in bloom right now (in the middle of January) on her enclosed front porch!

It's me again One thing you should do it take the hanging plant down and soak it in a large galvanized tub or something big enough to hold the whole pot. The pot will try and float, push it down and hold it so that it absorbs water and then let it sit in the water for 10/15 min. The pot should be heavy when you are finished.

I have several baskets of ferns on the patio, they do dry up quickly though so you have to keep an eye on them!
