This one really needs to be stopped. If you can do anything to help stop it, do so. We don't have it here in Canada YET, however I can see it coming here if it's passed in the States.

Yeah, don't it though?
They passed a bill just prior to Y2K...can't remember the exact name of the thing. That gave the government the right to confiscate crops both in the ground and in the silos and the seeds thereof, the livestock, the processed foods, personell, farm equipment, ect.
In other words, they could conscript your hubby to labor for the gov. without reimbursement and they could take your van or pickup if they thought they needed it.
Then, right after Y2K, they passed a bill in which part of it read that it was illegal to make any transactions that were not considered standard to the banking industry. This included bartering. Although it has not been enforced, once they make it illegal to use cash, bartering will be breaking the law and they will enforce it. HR 3162, but I don't know what the final name of the bill was when it was passed. I think it was the Emergency Powers Act.
It has already become so irregular to use cash for large purchases that it can get you arrested and your goods confiscated without legal recourse. Phil Donahue did a big show on that one. People in FL and TX were being arrested and having their property taken by the gov. There is also a loophole in there that says that if you contest it as a valid arrest, it also causes you to automatically forfeit your property.
Just about the same kind of loophole that states that if someone inside your house has drugs in their possession and they are arrested on your property, whether you were aware of it or not, they have a right to confiscate your home and any property related to it. They were taking little ole grandmother's homes because their grandsons were dealing dope on the corner.
So, yeah, Revelation here we come!

We have a farm number for our cattle. It is not a requirement yet and it is just for people selling livestock to slaughter so if mad cow or the like comes thru they can trace it. I see nothing wrong with it. But I am one of those people that believe that the only ones who would need to hide would be the ones that are doing something wrong. I am just a little naive that way.

Jeanna, I would agree with you that if you're raising animals/animal products for OTHERS to eat that there should be a system to trace the food, in case of a problem.
I raise eggs (from ducks) and next year plan to raise chickens for meat FOR MY FAMILY to eat. There is no need for a system to trace what we produce and consume right here on our property. THAT is my objection to NAIS.

One more thing: If NAIS passes, I would be responsible for the cost of ID'ing my animals. It galls me to think that I will have to pay $25-50 to ID a $2-6 chick/duckling.
