What plans do you have for your gardens?
Vegetable and flower.
I posted in the weekly thread about our vegetable gardens. My flower beds need some TLC this year. I'm going to divide alot of my perennials and move them around. I've been looking through catalogues to see what would go best in certain beds around the house. Local churches have plant sales in the spring around here so I'm going to those and see what I can find. A neighbour also has her eye on some of my perennials so we are going to trade. A great way to get a variety and not spend alot of money.
I would like to try and find evening primrose that grows about 3 feet tall, bushlike. I've planted the seeds before but it was alot smaller. Must investigate that.
How do YOUR gardens grow?
and what are your plans this year?

I'm not doing anything with flowers, my house is surrounded by them already
But in my veggie garden I will have: tomatoes, bush beans, cantaloupe, zucchini, green pepper, and carrots.

I really want to get some veggies going! I've made a few half-heareted attempts before but this year I think if I keep it simple I'll do well!

I don't really have any plans for my gardens this year. We're having a really bad problem with moles & I don't want to plan stuff to have them destroy it. We've been trying everything. I think we're going to have to call an exterminator of some sort because they just won't go away!

Dawn, we had moles at our old place. I was telling my chiropractor and he recommended to put castor seeds/beans down their holes. It worked like a charm!! We never had a problem after that.

We are planting a big garden this year. Reminiscent of the years before we moved to this house. We used to plant a 1 acre garden site. Lots, of work! We canned everything and didn't drive out to the grocery store unless we needed to. Shopping was done once a month. I really don't want to go back to those days.... but..... we do what we have to!
So, early garden is in - spinach, peas, lettuces, carrots, beets, onions, garlic and potatoes are in and up.
Next will be the summer garden. Beans, squashes, corn, cabbage will replace the peas, spinach, lettuces and new potatoes.
Fall Garden will be more spinach, continue the beans, broccoli, and more potatoes.
Buckets will be planted in a South exposure with peppers and tomatoes.
We'll probably need to clean up the garden for winter in November. Start again in late Feb or Early March.

Thanks Heather. That's a very interesting article! And it does seem like we have at least a dozen of them!! lol
I'll have to show my husband the article. We're using these "vibrating" things that you put into the ground but they dont' seem to be helping. We've tried some type of oil, I forget what kind, but that didn't really help either.
I'll have to check out the bean stuff! Thanks!!

I had started some seed inside. We have tomatoes and green onions, they are about 2-3 inches already...the green peppers never came up???
I only have a small balcony, so I will have to plant in 5 gallon buckets...I will have some flowers also (geraniums are my favorite).

Thanks Darlene, I figured that I'd ask the ladies in homesteading here as well as gardening is such a large part of our homesteads.

We'll put in some beans, corn, maters and such. Our weather has been one extreme to the other lately so we waited. I think it's time to start planting. Hubby got it tilled up.
They had on the news one of the farmers in another county said that unless we got more rain the tomatoes would cost double this year! Last year we had a drought and mine didnt do well at all. We bought two boxes @ 8 dollars each and I canned them.
I'd hate to think of paying $16 for a box of tomatoes!

Since I don't have a big veggie garden spot, I have to watch what I plant. I have the onions in. Peppers and tomatoes will be next.
