Smile Starting a garden with a veggie eating dog....

My title sounds weird but here's my problem...

I want to start a small garden in our backyard but I have a dog (Jack Russell Terrior) and well last year my neighbor planted some plum tomatoes and my dog got through to their yard and went crazy (the neighbor didn't mind as the crop was almost diminished and she left those there for the cats... yeah I said cats).

Well my dog went crazy and kept going into their yard and wouldn't come back on our side, I am worried if I plant a garden (even a small one) he will
    destroy it.

What are some suggestions to keeping a dog out of the garden and eating the veggies? If I put like chicken wire up will that really hold him back knowing how determined he is to get inside?

I want to plant, bell peppers, tomatoes and green beans for now.

I have no advice....mainly because I have known a few Jack Russell terriors!!!
But, our labrador loved veggies, and fruit. She would go out and roll cantalopes around till they broke open so she could eat them :-) And she would jump up to get plums off the trees....goofy dog.

My dog likes veggies too! Whenever we get out a baby carrot to give to our hamster, she (the dog) has to have one too. She likes cantalope, also.

Just wanted to pipe in and let you (and whoever else) know to be careful what your dog eats. The green parts of tomatoes can be poisonous. Other poisonous foods (for future reference) can include chocolate (obviously), green parts of potatoes, onions and garlic, grapes, persimmons, pits of peaches and plums.
