Default Down on the Homestead April 16-22

Wow I was surprised not to see this thread already started.

Today was a very relaxing day. DH is smoking some meat for 2-3 dinners. Won't have to worry about what we are having. Also taking some of it to Dad tomorrow. Otherwise, just have been picking and straightening up. DD and I took a walk and visited the inlaws. They were excited to see us and gave DD her easter present. Well it is time for me to go sit down, relax some more and sew the night away. It will be a busy week.

Since DH won't be home till late tonight we're having our Easter dinner tomorrow. Today DS and I will have chicken alfredo.

Last night I heard a noise at the back door and went to look. There was a skunk at the door! I didn't want to scare him so I backed away from the door. First time I've ever been that close to one.

Found out yesterday we'll be moving within the next month. Hubby's aunt has been keeping an eye on a place that the renters were moving out of and let us know. We have an appointment to see it Saturday. Don't know how much the rent is yet. All I know is that it's bigger than here, double the size. It's about 1600 sq.ft.

Hope everyone has a good Easter!

    Good morning homesteaders

This weekend was wonderful yet exhausting. My brother and sil were staying with us. Then Saturday my other brother and family showed up. We had 17 instead of 12 for Easter dinner on Sunday. We had lots of fun and laughter; my poor dog didn't know what to do with so many people in the house for 3 days. I think Rusty (my dog) and I will have a nap this afternoon.

Today I should vacuum but I'm thinking of taking the day off to relax and read. I will do some therapy work with dh but that's about it. I'll make a big jug of iced tea to sip on while enjoying a good book.

Hope you all have a great day

    Kellie, enjoy that smoked meat!

Theresa, hope you get the house!

Tina, lol..we were at my parents house yesterday and their dog Woody was the same way, he hid until there were only a few of us left and it's was so cute the look on his face...almost a sigh of relief that the last were leaving and he'd get Mom and Dad back for himself.

We had a wonderful time yesterday visiting with family. Went to my parents for Easter supper and visited DH's Mom in the afternoon. We all had a great time, it had been awhile since we were altogether.

Today the sun in shining and I've got 2 loads on the line drying. This morning I spent putting away things from yesterday and tidying the kitchen from my baking frenzy Saturday night..lol! My daughter is sick and I'm off shortly to go to town for more meds and some popsicles and gingerale.

    Have a great day!

The Easter weekend sure flew by! I took DGD's to a Bunny Bash! It was a blast. For a 3.00 admission they had a snack, visits with the Easter bunny, Winnie the Pooh and other stuffed bear characters, train rides, Shriner clowns every where making balloon animals and such. Plus they received tickets to play about 12 different carnival/fair style games where everyone received a nice prize each time and finally a big Easter basket when they were leaving. It was such a nice event for the children!
Easter morning the bunny came for the children. It was such a joy to see them with their baskets of treats and surprises! After breakfast and church services, it was off to MIL for the family dinner. So nice to spend the day together just having fun! I organized an egg hunt for the little ones. It was such fun to see them find the eggs and open them!!! Unfortunately, they then had to drive back home to Ohio and I wont see them for another few weeks. I love to see them come/ hate to see them go!
Today was just a day for catching up at work and trying not to yawn and yawn. It is cool and sunny out but I could curl up and nap the day away!!
However, the house is a mess, laundry needs done and I really should try and pull some weeds and trash from the flower beds. SO.....tonight I think I will just play red up the house and then see what happens!
This next week promises to be a busy one. I need to organize my closet and look through spring clothing. I have to go to Atlanta the following week and am wondering if I have anything to wear?? Plus I will need to work longer hours at the job this week. Oh well....better busy than bored right??
Well I am off to get moving. Happy Monday all

We had a nice weekend. Saturday DH went and picked up 2 truckloads of mulch. The front of the house is cleaned up and planted for spring. Easter dinner was at our house the kids and grandkids came to visit. They looked adorable in their easter outfits. I woke up so sore this morning. I think it was from all the mulch spreading and weeding, I didn't want to do any gardening today so I decided to go to Lancaster to get some fabric for a quilt since I am almost finished the 2 I am working on. DH and I just finished dinner so I am going to clean up and chill out for the rest of the evening. Maybe we will take a walk.

Good morning homesteaders. I haven't been posting much as I'm having trouble with my right shoulder along with not being well. All I want is to feel better. I'm finding our medical system isn't so great!!!

I have been able to spend lots of time quilting. For some reason my shoulder doesn't bother me when I sew and yet when I use my mouse for my computer it does. I've gotten 3 quilts finished and I've done about 15 blocks over the past couple days.

I need to get outside and work on the flowerbeds and start getting the garden ready. Our weather has warmed up nicely here. I'm hoping it continues and we don't get any surprise snowstorms.

Dh is finally back to work today after eye surgery a couple weeks ago. He was getting pretty bored and can't wait until 3 this afternoon. That's when he starts work.

I had a library board meeting at 8:30 this morning and now need to get ready to take the kids to music lessons this afternoon. Tonight it's over to the library to card some books and then over to the post office to clean.

The filming crew is finally gone and our nice quiet town is back to a nice quiet town.

Hope everyone is having a nice Tues.

I'm still living with blurred vision as a side effect of the medication for my eyes so I haven't been online much. I've been working on homeschool stuff for next year as I'm able. I rearranged some of the bookshelves so I have things for next year all together in one place plus I have gotten files together for the pictures I've saved out of magazines of historical figures and all sorts of animals for reports and timelines.

We continue to have major snake problems here due to the drought we're in. Dh did some weed eating around the pond on Sunday and had a couple of encounters, one of which was with a water moccasin that he had to fight off. He saw yet another when he came home last night. Filling in our pond will be impossible $$ wise, though we'd love to be rid of it, so he really needs to get off his duff and buy us a gun once and for all. Ds1 doesn't pay attention well when he's playing outside and I fear for all of our safety now.

I had hoped to make it until May 1st without turning on our a/c, but I had to give in at 3:15 this afternoon. We're right at 90* and there's no breeze.

I've been out of range for quite a while due to a sprained ankle and (my reason for posting here) three new goat babies!! The first one was born about two weeks ago and had some problems, so I spent about a week nursing her back to health. The other two were born (to separate moms) this week. Last year, I got nothing but twins. This year, I'm getting singles (unusual for goats). I am hoping that we're done, but two more of my nannies look suspiciously round, so I'm keeping an eye on them!

I spent 4 hrs today cleaning the barn and yard. The goats, dogs and ducks all followed me around. I bet we looked like an odd parade! LOL I spent an hour enjoying the sun with the baby pygmy goat on my lap.
Then on to laundry and house cleaning. I must admit I am wiped out! I sure hope the guys dont complain about hotdogs 4 dinner!

Madhen~ We recently got two goats. A 2 year old female and a 3 month old male who still takes a bottle. They are so fun!!!

Today was kinda busy. This morning I had to pick up some paperwork from church. Came home and washed and hung out 2 loads of laundry. Then I made a pot of Italian wedding soup, I had some escarole that I needed to use up. Oldest DS called me, he knew I had DH's truck today and asked me help him pick up a table and chair set for their deck from Wal-Mart, We went back to his house and I spent some time with the Grand's (kids). My grandson is 6 weeks old. There is nothing like snuggling a newborn. I could hold him all day! Tonight I am helping DH put up wallboard in the bathroom upstairs. isn't that romantic! lol.

Cj I hope you are feeling better soon! Glad your DH is back to work!
Kim, watch out for those snakes. Nothing scarier in my book. I cant stand the darn things.
MadHen, I bet those goats are adorable. If you can, post a pic for us to see!

Today was not a happy day for us. We finally had to " put down" one of our dogs, Casey. He was over 15 and ailing but it was so hard to make that decision. DH took him to the vet as I just could not do it. It feels terrible even though I know it was the right thing to do.

Tonight I hope to clean the sewing room and work on my scrapbook page while watching American Idol. I still have tons of chores to do around here but seem to only get alittle bit done at a time lately. Ah well....maybe warm weather will motivate me.

Well, I am off to feed the goat, ducks, chicks, dog and cat and grab the mail from the box. Then on to that sewing room...what a mess....have a great night you all!

Well the past couple of days I have been trying to play catch up. Having Dad in the hospital threw everything out of wack for me. The smoked meats that DH did on Sunday were wonderful. He grilled out again tonight. Tomorrow is leftovers. Tonight is working in the garden until American Idol and then working on my wall hanging during AI. Rod Stewart is supposed to be the guest star this week. I feel really old right now.

Good morning everyone. We had a wicked thunderstorm last night and got quite a bit of rain. The farmers are getting very worried about getting their fields planted. I'm hoping this isn't a repeat of last year. We already have water in our basement - UGH!!!

This morning, I'm off to do more volunteer work at the library. We are moving some older books to our activity room. Tonight I'll card some more books.

I need to get a load of laundry done sometime today. I'll have to hang it in the house because it's still raining.

Tomorrow I'll be gone for the day. I have to make a trip into Winnipeg, so will be leaving earlier in the morning and won't be back until afternoon.

Tonight I have to clean the post office. We had hoped to get the grass raked over there yesterday, however with the rain we won't be able to do it now until it dries.

Hope everyone has a great Wed.
