    Default Anyone planting a garden?

    Is anyone planting a garden?
    What are you planting?

    We will be doing:

    lettuce
    basil
    parsley
    snow peas
    pole beans
    brussel sprouts
    brocoli
    tomatoes
    red onions
    zuchini

And if the chipmunks will let us have some, we'll have tons of strawberries.

    I have a black thumb.

I once tried growing herbs in my kitchen. That was successful until one of my cats thought they would make a good second litterbox.

I want to start planting my own veggies, but don't know where to start.

I have lots of land in back yard, and around the house that I can use to plant some veggies, but don't know how to start. My front yard is full of flowers & grass, so not planning to plant veggies out front, but want to start planting veggies in back-yard, to saves some $$$ on grocery bills.

Now, I'm very clueless, anyone know how to start? I was thinking of digging out all the grass first, then buy some fertilizer-dirt, and veggie-seeds, and follow the instruction. I think there's more to this whole process. Anyone with any advice, please let me know. I'm planning to start ASAP (1 to 2 weeks), because it's already spring.

Startliving there are a LOT of really good gardening forums out there, just do a google search and you'll be busy for hours You will need to trmove the sod and prepare the soil, we spread a good thick layer of manure in the fall and then rototill it in come spring, but we're a farm and have a great supply of manure, lol.

This year we're really branching out and growing everything from lima beans to salsify. I'm planning on selling at the local farmers market.

The easiest veggies to grow are beans, radishes and lettuce. And tomatoes are fairly easy too.

    Good luck!

i have a very small yard as we live in a townhouse. i have a section about 4 feet wide and 8 ft long. i'm going to divide that up into 3 sections. 1 for teh dog to do what he needs to do, one for herbs adn flowers, and one for shorter veggies with peas or something growing up the fence. i have to move the path that right now curves through the yard from the cement slab to the gate. i'm going to make it straight. i dug out the holly bush, and took out most of the grass. i have one section of grass left right now until i can get the section for ddog fenced off (little wire edging stuff) and get real grass growing for him. he has to have grass to do his thing. then i can finish taking out the grass on the section near the fence. i also have to level it out and amend the dirt so it is more friendly for veggies. i have thought about putting the black plastic stuff that you use to keep weeds out and justpile dirt/soil on top of that because the ground is so compacted. it's too tight a space to try to rototill. and i really don't have the energy to turn it all by hand. but i'm gonna see what my folks can help with. worse comes to worse, i have a bunch of containers out back, but i think i can get it ready to put plants in teh ground.

i'm thinking about tomatoes, peas, a few herbs, lavender if i can find it at one of the garden centers, maybe some peppers and carrots.

I've just found the most AWESOME tool, it's a generic version of the garden weasel you see advertised all the time that runs about $40.00 (I've yearned for one for the last few years but just couldn't part with that much money) RKO carries a generic version of it for just $9.99 and it breaks up the soil wonderfully! It also mixes in the compost/manure and breaks up the weeds, I LOVE this thing.

I have a small garden in my backyard. We have lots of trees, so I had to work around where the sun goes! I dug it up last year when we moved here, so I didn't get anything planted until July. Didn't have a very good crop, obviously!
This year, I'm planting lettuce, green onions, yellow and green beans, swiss chard, carrots and tomatoes. I might throw in some beets, too, if I have enough room.

Just tomatoes and peppers for us again this year. Maybe next year I'll dig up a "real" garden plot.

I've really been considering it, but I'm clueless when it comes to plants. We have a decent sized backyard but a lot of it is shady and it can have an inch or more of standing water for a day or so if we get back storms.

I thought we were going to have a garden but we had to cut down a MAJOR tree outback so the yard is just full of tree. Probably not going to happen this year.
I did order a rose and a clematis for next to the front door and friends have given me a few perennials so I will have flowers out front. That's more than I had at the apartment I lived in.

I want to plant a garden. I've just bought a house and I will close on 6/15. Is that too late to plant anything? I'm in Michigan.

Not this year. We will be concentrating on finding a house that we will have no payments on. We plan on selling the house we have now. We have been going through all boxes and giving away, throwing away or donating. Then we will start with each room and paint it. Hopefully by August or September we can have a new place. I'll miss the garden, since dh and I like the fresh vegies.

I read in a magizine while at the doctors office that if you plant strawberries to make sure they are in a sunny place and to put straw down around the plants. The straw seems to keep the slugs away. TO only water once a week unless humid then 2-3x a week would be good. I never knew that about the straw.

We have planted 13 tomato plants, garlic, a cucumber plant (and some seeds also), some peas (plants and seeds), corn seeds (hope it will grow), pumpkin seeds, watermelon seeds, lettuce seeds, carrot seeds, and radish seeds. We are going to plant another bed of lettuce and carrots next week (so they are staggered).

We bought strawberry plants, but we are still cleaning out the bed where we want them planted. We also bought chives and thyme. We are still cleaning out where we want them to go too. I need to transplant the thyme that I have (the rosemary is growing over it).
