Question Have you thought of alternative energy?

Has anyone thought of alternative energy? What and have you used it? Was it costly or did you find it cost effective?

We are planning on building a house in the next year or so and we are looking into getting a geotherm heat pump to heat, cool and heat some of the hot water. And it takes heat or cool from the ground, so we won't be burning any thing only the electricity for the blower to get the heat around the house.

I'd love to have a wind generator.

DH keeps toying with the idea of getting an old windmill from a farm and fixing it up. We certainly have enough wind on this hill to keep the thing turning. I'm sure we could use it to generate some electricity and pump water. Maybe someday soon. We also talk about solar panels once in a while but they just seem to be soooo expensive.
