As I look around my house I see....

Walking through my kitchen, I'm reminded of my grannies house. On the cupboard sits my applesauce, ready to be taking down to my pantry. Along side of it is freshly baked bread (again), with half a loaf already gone. The kids love eating it for snacks. It needs to be put away as of yet.

Further in my kitchen, is my clothes basket, with clothes waiting to be folded. They beckon me, but I don't have time.

There are containers of wheat, different types, along with rice and sugar. They too need to be stored in the basement, but I don't have time.

Also on my table and cupboard, are roughly 3 dozen tomatoes, almost ripe. The weather looked like it might rain and I didn't want them all on the ground, so they are there, waiting for me. How long will they remain, I'm not sure.

Dishes aren't done from lunch, there are angels to be painted on my table, but here I sit on the computer, enjoying the time spent here.

Grannie's house always was like this, but she always had time for me. She lived a simple life on the homestead in an old, old house where kitchen/living room was combined. She had an outside toilet and for night time, a chamber pot under her bed. She wore aprons and always had a treat for me in her pocket. She could cook and yet find time for me. She gardened, and yet found time for me. She was one special lady and when I look at my kitchen, I don't see everything that needs to be done. I remember a very precious lady who touched my life in ways she'll never know.

btw - I love to share a picture of my home. We only paid $26,000 (cash) for it and our taxes are $245 per year. It was built in 1900 (just like my grannies), only hers wasn't a Victorian home. Thanks for letting me walk down memory lane today as I looked at my kitchen. Does anyone else remember the past when your where you at right now?

OH MY GOODNESS! 26,000!! I AM MOVING!!!! AAahhhhh Do you know how much a house like that would cost here? Ohhh my goodness I want to move to the country!

Your place sounds soooo nice and peaceful and wonderful!

Was there a lot of fixing up to do in that house?

I try my best to be as 'country and homemade/ homegrown' and I can get..but I can only go so far

Our home had a new furnace, new hot water heat, new shingles and eavesdrough put in the year before we purchased it.

We are replacing the windows and doors because our windows are only double pane and the doors as as old as the house.

Our home was spotless and very well taken care of and we are also looking at getting it classified as a heritage home. That way, if we want to work at getting anything back to the original, part of it is paid. The balcony use to be quite a bit bigger and needs to be redone which I would love to have done with someone else paying.

I've repainted the kitchen and I'm doing the m/bedroom with Victorian wallpaper and historical paint.

Other than that it was great. The garage (which you can't see), dh redid all with recycled items and make a woodworking shop out of it.

It's gorgeous!

Well I guess I can mention what it's like here at my house(even though I'm not a homesteader?)..though if I showed you a picture of our tiny townhome you'd get depressed

Right now, we have the large living room windo open ...the weather is cool..and breezy...the sound of the wind is like music to our ears..We have a view of a hill with long dry grass, and there are tree's and flowery bushes in the foreground..

The house is quiet as Ayla is napping..dh is sewing at the dining room table..The house is almost prestine (expect her room)

Fresh cornbread is on the stove, as well as a pot of homemade vegetarian chili. Potatoes are still baking in the oven..lentils are in the crockpot.

I don't get any past memories from right this moment, but I'm happy in the fact that I'm making new memories in my own home with my own family.

Just last night as I was going for a run, I felt completely at home in this neighborhood. We've lived here about 2 and a half years..and it's just starting to set in.

The one memory I get actually, is as I go walking at night, the smell of the grass and (plums?) reminds me of living at my grandparents in the Napa valley. Oh and the red potatoes remind me of grandma, she has them almost every day

That's a beautiful home you have there, Homestead Mamma...It's my dream to have one like that...maybe oneday...

I like the way you describe your life. That's the kind of life I like to live, but I'm not in a farm house.

Your granny sounds like special granny everyone would dream to have.

What a beautiful house! I will have to find a picture of ours to post. It was built in 1901 (the original part). Aren't all the old nooks and crannies wonderful?

i want to move to your house. but maybe you can share some of that energy you have with the rest of us. I am just now getting to the point where we all sit at the table for supper. No tv no phone. i will get there eventually
