Started my freebie garden
I put in my garden in today and it only cost me $3.00 this year. My garden is 12 by 12 it only holds seven rows of veggies. My friend had extra plants to give away so I took them and it filled my garden. The only seeds that I bought were the beans and pea. I have the beans, peas, onion, tomatoes, and green peppers. That will be plenty for us since there is only three of us eating during the week day and four to six of us eating on the weekend. My mom gave us a small chest freezer so I am planning on freezing alot of these veggies.

Congradulations
Nothing better than home cooked meals with veggies you grew yourself.
Hope to plant some garden today. At least the beans and squash and pumpkins and cucumbers....
Need to go get the tomato and pepper plants Saturday. A friend has a greenhouse and we get good deals from him every year.

Our garden is planted and ready to grow!!! It does save money!!! Last year, the weather didn't cooperate with us, and my beans didn't do so well, hopefully this year will be different.
taking one day at a time, trying to get rid of debt!!

Most everything loves sunlight as long as you water them.
Never water in the heat of the day though. Usually about 6 am or 7 pm is good..

I got an almost freebie garden this year, too.

A couple we know has a great setup in their basement and they start seeds for our circle of friends. I never got any seeds to them this year, but I asked if they had any leftover plants no one had room for.
I planted two varieties of tomato (8 plants total), six pepper plants, and two varieties of basil.
I found seeds I purchashed back in 2005 but never planted: lettuce, carrots, corn, and pumpkins. I plan to get those in the ground this coming weekend.
I'm going to look at our scrap lumber collection to see if we have enough for a pole bean frame. We have some old wire fence to put on it. If that works, I will buy some beans.
yonksgirl, most things will grow in full sun. Also, most brands of seeds have little pictures on the back of the seed packet to tell you what the sun and water needs are for that variety.

I am doing container gardening. Beans - that don't need poles, tomatoes and lettuce. Since it will only be me...I will have plenty. I also have a herb garden and plan on making some homemade spaghetti sauce.

Yeah, if the pole bean frame doesn't work out, I could buy bush beans. doh! I don't think you get as many beans per square foot of garde, but some beans is better than no beans!!

Good luck with your garden!! I am envious because we didn't plant one this year. I am going to miss those free veggies!

We have a little garden. We have potatoes, green beans, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and cabbage. I hope it does good. We just put out enough mostly for fresh vegetables. I really enjoyed them last year. When my mom was alive she used to raise a big garden and can and freeze stuff every year. She feed us 5 kids on it with not a whole lot from the stores. I miss her so much and think every spring how she would be getting so excited over putting out her garden. Hope all of your gardens grow wonderfully this year.

We planted boccoli lettuce green peppers tomatoes 5 different kinds onions and I have started a container herb garden my dh made cages out of left over wire fence just have to water it alot cause it has been so dry here in ohio we have not run the ac at all and it has been very hot so we feel the cost is justified also my daughter has moved out so her 10-15 minutes showers are gone to miss her but it has saved on the water bill. I love gardening and it helps us get the work outs we need.
