Container Gardening
I would like to have a garden however the soil where I live isn't suitable to grow anything. What would be some good plants that could grow well in a container? I am going to try tomatoes and strawberries. Also, I live in southern Mississippi and is it too late to start planting now?
Thanks in advance for responses!!~Debra~Wife to Jeff

It's too late to start summer veggies now. Tomatoes should be started in the spring. Strawberres are more of a spring crop, but I don't know when they're planted.
You could try cool weather veggies in the Fall, like spinach, lettuce, broccoli.
I have tomatoes in containers this year, they're doing really good. I'm using those white 5 gallon buckets, with the handles. I tried a black one once but I think it overheated the plant on sunny days in the middle of summer.
If you go with the buckets, make sure to poke some holes in the bottom.

I heard that strawberries are great for this.

Strawberries work well as container plants, as do tomatoes. Just make sure the container is plenty big enough for what you're planting. Also, some people just bring the tomato containers indoors in the fall and put them by a window. I've never done it, but I've talked to people who say they can have fresh tomatoes all winter that way.
