Angry Raccoons in my peanut hay! Arrgh!

The pesky little bandit's are at it again. They are digging through the bails of peanut hay and eating all the peanuts, making the biggest mess. I know it's coons and not deer, because the deer would eat the hay along with the peanuts. We have the bails stored under our big equipment shelter close by the goat pens. There is no where else to store them. Need to find a natural repellent that won't harm the goats, since I only feed them the peanut hay and let them forage in the woods. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Carolyn! I lost a hen last Monday. I thought it looked like a raccoon kill so we got out our box trap and we have caught two coons so far this week. They love marshmallows. My husband has a friend that is training a bluetick hound so he wanted the coons.

My dad has one of these http://www.overstock.com/Gifts-Flowe...ID=prod1905009 and traps squirrels, then lets them go on another mountain. LOL

I have seen them in Agway's (farm and feed type stores). HTH

Well, we have live traps, so I quess we will have to set them out and bring the cats inside for the night. DH thinks it's a momma coon with 2 young. LOL, I don't know why we didn't think about trap and release. Duh!

    Thanks!

DH set the live trap using peanut butter and we caught a big male July 3. Good thing for him it wasn't winter cause a big skinned coon will bring $35 easy around here, especially around the holidays. DH released him down on the other end of the river swamp. No problems since then, so I guess he was the only one.

Hey girls I am battling a couple woodchucks. There is one that is huge. What do you use in the traps to lure them. I have some rabbits but they ate my first crop of lettuce but have left everything else alone. The woodchuck cleaned out all of my sunflowers and I have had it with them. Obviously I don't have sunflowers to lure them. They are living under my neighbors garage and a back shed so I have to be under the radar to catch them. Thanks.

Default well you could eat them

I grew up in a small Ohio town and one of their big fund raisers was to have an annual raccoon supper. My great-grandmother would cook it in a large roaster for them, other people would too.(great eating) I heard the Columbus Dispatch had a front page article on the event at Danville,Ohio. I didn't think people were getting much for the furs, since the animal rights activist are so against fur.But even here in Southern California I have had coons the size of medium dogs .I had some kittens that had been killed by a coon years ago, but do not have a gun. I didn't think to try marshmallows,in the trap. Thanks for the tip I will try it again. I just had a mom and 4 babies in my garage, when some one forgot to close it. I was going to mention my sister usually has a huge problem with ground hogs, she throws her corn husks or something else they like to eat on the road. It draws them out to either shoot them or a couple have got run over.LOL
