    Default My poor garden

We've had over 100 degree weather here everyday for the past 2 weeks. My poor garden is suffering even though I'm keeping in watered. We've got a cool front coming in a couple of days--highs only in the low 90's. Anyone else's garden suffering from the heat.

Us too Dixie, we went ahead and cleared ours out, done for the year. I am ready for a break from this heat! Good thing about MO though, the weather changes often.

Mine's done, actually well done! My water bill doubled so I had to slack off the watering. Then my cukes and squash got powdery mildew, but I did manage to get some pickles made and some fried squash. Why are the weeds doing so well and the garden is brown??

Mine too! The tomato plants died. Everything else is pathetic looking. I am watering, but the extreme heat/humidity is wreaking havoc on everything.

I thought I was the only one who is pulling up stakes and I'm done for the year. Between the heat and 5 inches of rain each week. I couldn't keep up with the weeds! But got plenty put up for the winter!

This is usually our rainy season, and you can count on a thunderstorm every afternoon, but this year has been so dry! I have trouble keeping stuff alive!

I've had a couple of potted plants die because I couldn't keep them watered enough in this heat.

My garden did surprisingly well this year despite the hot weather. Before I planted my plants this year I watered the ground real well and put layers of newspapers down, just don't use the colored sections. They hold in the moisture and keep out the weeds. I didn't have one weed in my 50 tomato plants. I had a few in my cucumbers and corn though. I've picked between 4 and 5 bushels of tomatoes and they are still coming on.

We are in the Rockies and the weather is very hard to predict with the first snow possible anytime between end of August and October!! Now that our searing hot weather is over, I've started some snow peas outside, and have cold weather starts (kale, broccoli, lettuce) going inside, more to give ds the pleasure at seeing the seedlings than anything else.
