How do you get your garden ready for winter?
Honestly, there isn't much to do in SW Florida, but the "just in case" things I do are:
~ make sure I can get to the old blankets and plastic used to cover things in case of a freeze....haven't had to use them in a long time.
~ clear out a space to bring all the potted plants inside when the temps go below 40. I'll have to post a pic of my house during the last freeze....looked like a jungle!
~ fertilize everything for overwintering in October. Actually, this is our growing season, but still, unless something is actively growing, I don't fertilize after October. All citrus has to be fertilized one last time, and the grass should be fertilized (I don't) for overwintering.
~ Use the cooler weather to clean out the beds, and mulch with falling leaves. My oak leaves don't fall until Spring, but I put all other leaves on as mulch during the fall/winter.
~ Take cuttings...our cuttings root much easier in cooler weather
~ Winter sow seeds. Usually do this in late December, when they aren't really likely to sprout until spring.
That's all I can think of right now.

I'm in CO and get a lot of snow -- my main job is getting fall clean-up done before we get a big snowfall that makes everything mushy. I also need to put in bulbs -- I LOVE tulips and other bulb flowers in the spring!! We need to blow out our sprinklers before the first freeze, too.
