I would like to have a larger, more productive garden in 2008 so that I have enough home grown produce to can. In 2007,I converted a flower bed that no one ever really even saw, into a tomatoe patch.

I would also like to have more plant startings from others to make flower beds in the front yard.

For 2008, I would like to learn more about quilting and maybe even actually finish a quilt project! ( I am the queen of projects started but never finished!)

Well we have been moved for a year and a half now--from our farm. We plan on getting chickens, putting up a small barn--about 3 stalls for my dd show cows, planting an herb garden, starting a compost pile, planting some fruit trees and bushes, and then growing a veggie garden. I think that is more than enough for 1 year to start.

We moved to our new property on Nov 14, 2007.

    My plans so far are:

    Plant fruit trees
Plant an organic square foot elevated bed garden
    Plant rose bushes
    Develop a compost pile

The ultimate goal is to become as self-supporting as we can ... minus the animals.

I want to expand my garden. We will also take down a few more trees to open up the area for more sunlight.

I am also hoping to start some seedlings indoors this year.

I expanded the garden last year. This year I am hoping to:

    plant some blueberry and raspberries
    utilize my garden area better
    can and dehydrate my produce
    start more from seed
learn to use a rototiller (LOL)

My gardening neighbor who I thought had sold her house is actually living in it again.. To many buyers fell through and instead of having two households they are now down to one again.. So I will be able to share with her in her garden as well. They may even think of doing the green house idea again which I would be able to use for myself... YAY... Can't wait for spring..

Besides gardening, I really need to use my sewing machine to its ability. I have things I can make, or fix and have not done so yet. Plan on using the bbq, and crockpot more often, We are planning on getting a side of beef and pork each.

I will teach my son how to make candles this year. He is very eager to learn. He wants to experiment.

Wow, it sounds like I have a lot to do this year, but in all it is not that much... (I HOPE).... Good luck to you all....

Sounds like you all have some good goals. My husbands grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was first married. I only ever made that one blanket. I wouldn't mind relearning the stitch she taught me and maybe even a couple of other ones.

I'm moving to a new place and inherit the existing compost heap and remains of last-year's garden. I want to use the garden effectively, but have not much experience. Anybody got suggestions for how to use what I think is about 12 feet by 18 feet of well-conditioned garden to be planted? I've done tomatoes and peppers in the past, but don't need that many of them. oh, and I'm in southeast New Mexico at about 3500 feet elevation.

Well it is a quarter way thru the year. and in case people forgot what they had planned. I thought I would list my progress and other people could update on what they have done. I purchased 12 more strawberry plants and another variety of rasberry. I purchased blueberry seeds and ginseng seeds so far the ginsing is growing somewhat, it is still small so I could still kill it. My rasberry plant from last year is now 3 plants, but I will wait til fall to try and separate them. I also divided my garlic chives and purchased onion chives and 2 more varieties of sage, a purple and a varigated purple sage along with a rosemary plant, thyme and fennel, parsley. I planted a cherry and avacado tree. I have a lot more ordered can't wait till they get here.
