Talking Beans, beans the musical fruit

The more you eat the more you "toot". Alright I'm in a giddy mood today and having fun reminiscing about homesteading.

We are becoming a family that eats more beans. I make bean soup, use beans in chilis and am experimenting with learning new recipes. Beans store well and have become a staple in our homestead.

Here is a wonderful site in regards to information on beans.

    http://waltonfeed.net/self/beans.html

When we first started eating beans, the kids would look at them and shudder. Dd never liked chili but when I started experimenting and made a delicious chili, she asks for it at least once a week now and has several bowls at a meal. This is from someone who wouldn't eat chili. Now the family loves beans and I'm so happy about it. Beans are nutrious and relatively cheap and make for lowing your grocery bill.

Now I wonder if my 3 oldest would eat them - NOT I'm sure.

We eat a lot of beans....... Tip: do not soak your beans, that foamy stuff on the water is from the beans fermenting that is what makes them "Musical Fruit " . Just sort, wash and put into water and cook til desired tenderness.... I like mine cooked just enough and not too mushy.......

We eat beans regularly in the winter cooked in the Crock Pot. We use canned beans (refried and chili style) year round. Great stuff and cheap too!

I have a couple of bags of dried beans in the cupboard that I've aquired along the way.
I don't know how to cook them, so I never have.
Maybe I should get them down from the top shelf and use them up, huh?
