    Default Gardening Question

I couldn't find the gardening section on here.
I have questions about planting garden peas and spinach. I plan to plant both of these in wooden rectangular planters. I was told to plant them on St. Patricks Day because they like cool weather. Is that true? Do I have to worry about covering them if it frosts? Do they need any special food?

I purchased Burpee Seeds and got the peas that only get to 24" tall and say they don't need support. The Spinach seeds are a double hybrid meant for harvesting baby and adult spinach.

Any information that you guys can give me on these at all would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure what zone? I live in southern WV.
My next door neighbor is the one who told me she plants her peas the week before St. Patricks Day and has done it that way for years.

talking to your neighbor is a great thing every zone will have pockets of different zoness and she can be a wealth information of information for you. ANd long time gardeners also are glad to not only share information and knowledge but extras. When I divide my flowers I am always looking for a home. If my zuchinni gets squash bugs a neighbor has too many and shares.

I live in MD (zone 7) and plant both spinach and peas as close to 3/17 as possible. The ground was too wet last weekend, so I am hoping to get them in the ground this weekend. Spinach seeds benefit from the chilly soil. Peas can tolerate the cold, too.

I use Nature's Aid Garden soil innoculant when planting the pea seeds. Spinach is a heavy feeder and can benefit from fertilizer high in nitrogen. Fish emulsion is a good organic choice.
If I didn't plant them in March, I'd never get a crop. The weather gets too hot too fast here.
