Something dug up my Garlic!!!!!!!
Hey All!
The snow has finally melted and the weather is warm enough to get out and start gardening.
Checked on the garlic I planted last fall and OH MAN!!!! about half of the cloves I planted were lying right on top of the bed. I think i didn't plant them deep enough and the melted snow erroded the soil. But also it's obvious that something had dug up some of them and ate them??? I know that we have a mole living in that area. Would a mole eat garlic?
Many of the cloves have shoots sprouting from them so I replanted them. Should i go out and dump a light layer of soil ontop of the bed to make sure they are planted deep enough and to give the bulbs enough soil in which to form?
thanks
Kim

I have had squirrels dig up my garlic. I can't believe they would like it. I covered mine with a heavy layer of straw in the fall and that helped this year.

Is this happening overnight? If so, I bet it's earthworms. They do it to onions too. When the roots get bigger the worms won't be able to push them up. The worms are great to have in the garden but they can be pests!

I don't know if this was over night or not just came out one day and there they were. Didn't know that worms could do that. Most of the replanted garlic has taken root and is doing well. Thanks for the input
