need tips - container gardening
I have limited space in my garden and this year want to try growing some additional things in containers! Any tips on container gardening appreciated. I hope to grow in containers: lettuce, spinach, tomatoes & possibly peppers.
Thanks for any tips!

The only thing I have grown in containers so far is tomatoes; cherry, grape & the bigger ones. This year I am going to try snow peas & stringless green beans, since they are both bushy plants. I use 5 gal. white buckets for my containers, gives the roots plenty of room to grow.

I grow spring/green onions, leaf lettuce/mesculin mix and spinach in my window boxes and harvest a bunch of leaves as I need them.

You have to watch containers closely -- they dry out fast, so water accordingly. . and fertilize well.
I used some twigs from our yard as stakes for the tomatoes, beans and peas . . . used old panty hose to tie them up.
You can train cucumbers/melons to grow up a trellis/branch. . use old panty hose to hold the melons/cucumbers to the plants.

I have planted green onions and leaf lettuce in container. Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers as well.
Keep watered. I use a little compost with my dirt.
I have all types of containers. Make sure you have good drainage !!!!
I think you can can plant about anything you want in containers.
