    Default soil for raised garden??

We're having a raised garden this year, and I'm wondering what type of soil to use. The estimated size is 20x30. DH was thinking a mix of potting soil and mulch. Any suggestions?

I would say a mix of compost, peat moss and either vermiculite or perlite. This will give you the nutrients you need and help retain moisture. Good luck!

Top soil, compost, peat moss mixed well and topped with mulch.

When we put in my beds we had a load of black dirt dropped off (old celery farm dirt) and mixed it with some of our sand (which we have plenty of) and it works like a charm.

For the bulk of our raised beds or city has free mulch from the leaves collected. We just go with our old plastic trash cans and fill them up.
For the rest (the top dressing) we used some top soil, manure, and compost.
If you buy all your soil depending on how deep your bed is, you will be surprised how much it takes to fill it. It could cost a fortune.
