When Can I Plant?

I want to start a veggie garden in my back yard. (hoping for raised beds...)

I live near Albany NY and I just moved here.

Are there any special tips or particular plants that are better (or worse) for planting in NY?

I moved here from NC. So you can imagine the difference.

I am itching to plant, but my mother says it's too early! Is it too early!?

*sigh*

Help me out please!

Hi Meg, you live near me & we usually plant our garden on Memorial Day weekend. We have planted a week sooner but your risking it being killed by frost.

I'm in Schoharie County (off rt 20), just over the border from Schenectady County. Where are you?

Welcome to the neighborhood!

As far as what to grow, we have good luck with just about everything except root crops like carrots. They just don't seem to like our soil or something.

I shop often in Rotterdam.

My Dd and her boyfriend substitute teach in some of the schools there. Small World.

I learned a lot just by googleing my state. When I first started I didn't know what to plant so I googled Florida gardens and low and behold there is a sight called the Florida Gardener and it tells you month by month what to do in your garden. Maybe you can find something like that. Good luck
