the raccoons are driving me crazy

Does anyone have an idea for encouraging the raccoons to not visit every night? Not only are they running all over the house all night {doing what I'd like to know}, but for the last four days they have been screeching. I mean really loud noise!!! We are used to hearing them on the roof at night and stealing fruit from the trees all summer. This noise thing is new. I am so sleep deprived you'd think I had a new baby in the house.

They normally only make these sounds once a year for a few minutes, but they have been doing this for at least 4 hours a night. YIKES! You can imagine the noise from the neighbors dogs and cats to go along with them!!{and my dogs as well}

They must have put up a sign somewhere saying Wild Party at Imforpeace's, be there or be nowhere!
Unfortunately the only way I know of to get rid of them is to trap them & relocate.
Only thing you really can do as a preventative effort is to make sure your garbage & pet food are in tightly sealed containers, out of their way.

My cousin had one get in via her roof and come in the house thru a drop ceiling. LOL

ask your local wildlife/game warden if they have raccoon traps that you can use. Usually they will let you sign them out or even come and set them up in your yard and catch them and relocate them. Good luck......oh, if they happen to get in your trash try putting 2caps of ammonia in your bag before you tie it up. The smell will keep them out of it.

My neighbor has a spray bottle of ammonia handy and sprays the outside of the garbage bags when she puts them out.

(I wonder what the trash collectors think of that)
