    Default help! Grubs!!!

Every year we face a HUGE Japenese Beetle problem. The beetles come in
june and literally strip my young trees, herbs and some plants.
We want to put down some grubex or sevin dust.
My concern is with our pets. We have 3 dogs. I also heard that you should not use sevin around honey bees. We have someone that puts their hives across the street about 300 yrds away.. is that enough space.

Can anyone recommend anything else to do?

    thanks

We don't have those here. But I would try calling a nursery and see if they can suggest something. Maybe there is something more earth friendly nowdays.

I do the unthinkable. Ant and grub killer on my lawn. I would love to have a more environmental friendly solution and will be watching the thread.

I have read somewhere to use dish soap mixed with water-only a little and put it in a spray bottle to spray on plants. I would also get the wasp and bug traps, growing up in Ohio we always had Japanese beetles and those worked somewhat.Another one I heard of is diathenous earth(spelling?) it is the earth you put in your pool filter. I read somewhere to sprinkle it on your plants to keep away bugs.

Diatomacious earth is Not what you use in your pool! It is a naturally occuring collection of prehistoric ocean diatoms that layered in the earth. It kills bugs of all kinds by scratching their exoskeletons and causing them to dehydrate. It is safe for animals and bees and us. It is not to be eaten by us though I have heard of people putting it in their pets food to kill internal things. You can get it at most organic gardening centers and feed stores. Please read about it on the internet. Hope this is helpful. Suzi in Texas

Diatomaceous earth is what I use in my pool filter. It is sold in large boxes at the pool supply.
