I have a planter by my kitchen door. It holds chives, parsley, basil, lemon thyme, I planted nasturtiums for color and to torture my family by putting it in salads.
Still a little early here and not much but chives to harvest.

I have a couple whiskey barrels outside with thyme, sage and mint starting to grow. I have lavender in the ground starting to grow, And my basil is taking over the house! I started it from seed and it really grew faster than I expected. Now it's lined up on every single available windowsill, including the ones in kids bedrooms! Tom and pep plants are under lights, but the basil seems to be doing fine in the windows. I've already made 1 batch of pesto. I usually put the basil in the veg. garden. I will probably buy a few parsley plants, because I didn't start any, and I will direct seed cilantro into the veg. garden. I would really like to grow more herbs. Maybe next year!

Wow! I would love to grow fresh bay leaves! Thyme is a very tough perennial. I think it could survive almost anything! And basil, there are lots of varieties of basil. There is a 'Genovese Sweet' basil. I think when they say sweet they are just talking about that classic basil flavor, (most basils), some basils are a bit spicier with touches of mint or anise, and some are citrusy.

I have oregano, rosemary, lemon balm, purple sage, and green sage in the garden. I have chocolate mint, peppermint, and spearmint elsewhere in the yard.
I have planted thyme every year and I kill it every year. I am trying it again this year. I bought English thyme and lemon thyme. I am hoping that I don't kill it again.
I bought some marjoram and basil seeds. I am hoping that I can not kill them after I plant them.

I have some dill seeds that MIL gave me a year or so ago. I'd really love to start growing them but I'm afraid that they'll come to seed and end up blowing all over my yard.

I grow sweet basil, peppermint , garlic chives, and garlic for their tops. I use to plant tons of herbs such as oregano, parsley and thyme but found I never really used them so now I stick to herbs I know I use. I would like to start growing cilantro because I've started using cilantro a lot more but that will have to wait until next year.

I have sage, oregeno, chives and rosemary that come up each year. I planted basil and I'm going to put in cilantro. THANKS for the tip about purple basil reseeding it's self. I'll have to try that. I did start some basil in a pot to give to my brother, so he can put it in his kitchen by a window. That looked and smelled beautiful when I gave it to him last weekend. Oh I forgot I have tyme too!
