Blackberries
We planted 3 blackberries bushes, and I just purchased 2 more today. I love fresh berries. Does anyone make jam? I would love to have a recipe for blackberry jam.
Last Friday we planted potatoes, peas, onions, and radishes. In a few more weeks we will be able to put out the rest of the seeds.

I make both strawberry jam and blackberry jam for the recipe I only use the one in the box of pectin Use the one for freezer jam it tastes so fresh compared to a jam stored on the shelf but if no no room in a freezer there are recipes for regular jam in the box also that are very good.

Meg, thanks, I didn't even think about looking on the box of pectin for blackberry jam recipe. I love strawberry freezer jam.
Tracy, Sorry you don't have room for a garden.

we used to make black berry pie, freeze the rest of the berries for pies later on.
or for breakfast, instead of cereal we'd have a bowl full of berries topped with sugar and wheat germ.
you can add fresh/frozen berries to cereal, oatmeals.
make muffins, pancakes, waffles, cakes... you name it!
but that's what WE did with it. we weren't into the jam making.

We have wild blackberries & I have made a lot of blackberry jam in the last few years. I like the recipe on the low sugar pectin box (it's pink). It's less sugar we're eating & less sugar to buy. I process the jars in a water bath canner.
The recipe says not to double the batches, so I haven't, but I do make three or four batches back to back so I only have to clean up once.

I have to tell you all that "grow" blackberries on purpose... Here in Oregon, we kill them... They are EVERYWHERE... I don't personally, but here they are considered a weed. We have plenty of wild ones just for the picking. Just had to share in MY giggle for the day.. I am glad that you have some to plant though. I love the taste of fresh blackberries.
