    Default squash bugs

Everytime I try to grow any summer squash I get squash bug and if I could keep ahead of them they would come from the neighbors gardens... I am now the only garden for a block and it has been 2 years so I am willing to try again hoping the population of potential problems is smaller

Any hints on growing squash would be welcome

Plant basil in and around your squash plants, it's works wonders keeping the squash bugs at bay (we will sometimes get them but much, much later and not nearly to the extent we used to....even the commercial treatments wouldn't work).

Missy, I was seriously wondering the same thing, then I scrolled down and saw you said it too.....
    basil??? really?????
If so, cool! I started some basil from seed that I was going to pot up, but I'll still in the garden near the squash if it will really work....or at least be worth a shot!

Thank you for that tip! Would never have thought that Basil would be good for repelling insects. Usually it's garlic that repells insects.
