My first thought was that this thing could prove useful for learning to do hip rolls in belly dance class....I'm having trouble with 'flexibility and coordination' using my abs and hips....roflmao.

Have you tried sitting on a large ball? If you have an 8" or larger playground ball you can place it on a chair then gently sit and try to do some hip rolls and circles. We used to do that in therapy to work the core trunk muscles and improve control of movement.
