I am not in Okinawa but in Germany. We are stationed in Ansbach, Germany. My DH is in the Army. How long will you be there? We have been here for almost a year already. We have two left. Do you like it there? It is ok here but too far from family and DH's unit is horrible!

We have been in Okinawa since January 1999. I didn't like it at all the first year we were here. We have now extended until 2005. So, it has rubbed on me. It is quiet, and safe for my kids.

Robyn,
I'm so jealous right now. We were stationed at Kadena AB from 93-96. We would love to get orders back there. We miss it terribly.
I had my Ds at Camp Lester naval hospital. I worked at the Camp Foster Power Zone for AAFES. Extending there is a good move.
What's the current yen rate? We really miss the COLA!! LOL!!

Our COLA is 293.84 a month. For $1 you get .99 Euro. Does that make sense? We are in Germany. We got 20 Euro from the ATM and it was $20.74. Where are you stationed at now, Pam?

The current yen rate is between 115-116. I am not sure because I didn't hear it on the radio today.
The cola is good here. I had my last baby here. I live at camp lester.
I was in Hawaii when you were here...

Hi Laci,
We are in California. We've been here since we returned in '96. Our 20 year mark is 2005 but my dh has his line number for Tech Sgt. so we'll probably stay in 22 years. He is already studying to make Master Sgt on his first try so we'll probably retire after 24 years. Cola in Japan was real good between 93-96. I've always heard Hawaii is really expensive!!
Robyn,
Is the naval hospital still open on Lester? We were told it was going to be closing when we left in '96. So is your hubby Army, Navy, Air Force, or A Marine? We are AF. That's one of the things we enjoyed about Okinawa was that all branches of the military worked together. They all still talked trash(LOL) but they worked together. LOL!! The weather this time of year is gorgeous. We really miss it! Thanks for bringing back good memories.
We always wore shorts in the winter time. LOL!

Tammy,
It's cost of living allowance to help offset living in a different economy, in addition to our Dh regular pay. I believe even some areas stateside get a bit of COLA. Or at least they use to. It helped us to pay off almost all of our CC debt while we were overseas. Living overseas is a wonderful experience.

Hi everyone,
I am curious if anyone is/ or has ever been stationed in Kwajelein, Marshall Islands? We have a new son (adopted) that was born in Majuro, Marshall Islands, and I would love to gain any tidbit of knowledge from someone who has lived or visited the RMI.
Also, anyone stationed in Hawaii?
Thanks,
Stacey =)
