Plastic ice trays.
I see those often at yard sales and they are usually dirt cheap. These are great for holding small items in drawers. My dd had lots of costume jewelry when she was younger so we lined a drawer in her dresser with them and then stacked more on top to use for jewelry storage for her. It worked great and she could see all of her things.

That's a good idea. I also like to have extras (I think we have 6) so we can freeze stuff like iced coffee, lemonade, and iced tea. This way we put these cubes in the drinks and they don't get diluted when the cubes melt.

you can put sticks into them and make koolaid pops
you can freeze baby food in small amounts to serve in small amounts.
Freeze sauces, mashed potatoes, or other semi solid foods so you cal store them together in one large gallon size baggie but you can select a serving size easily.
Early planting for gardening flowers or veggies .. just poke a hole in the bottoms and lay over some saran wrap to make individual little compartmented green houses.
Hmm could get bored and or creative and make rainbow colored icecubes by using different koolaid flavors..just each time you use a different flavor color fill the ice cubes a little bit.
Perhaps freeze lemon juice cubes .. and pop one in your water or soda with some regular ice cubes. Or perhaps freeze a peice of fresh mint in it to give a refreshing cooling taste to a drink.
You could freeze juices and then put them in the food processor or blender with a little water and make frozen slushies.

I make 'coffee cubes' to use in my iced coffee... keeps it from getting watery. I have also done it with juices.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

If you are a painter, ice cube trays are a good way to mix paints.

*Keep parts in sequence as your taking something apart that you plan to put back together...just put them in the trays in the order they come off.
*Freezing eggs! Found a good price and bought more than you can use? Ice cube trays are the perfect size for one medium egg, freeze, then toss in a ziplock.
*Great for kids projects. Use them to keep paint seperate (as someone said) or organize things to put on your project, like glitter, eyes, buttons, etc!

Herbs too
When I have extra fresh herbs I'll chop them finely and freeze them with water in ice cube trays. Then if I need some fresh herbs in a sauce or soup it's easy to pop out a cube or two from the freezer. It saves extra fresh herbs from going to waste.

We do juice and kool aid in them. I also use them to hold earrings
as well as ponytail holders.
