i also use one on the stove to poor grease and extra hot liquids out..

They work great for gift baskets at Christmas too! Just have the kids decorate them, then put some home baked goodies inside! Great cheap gift for friends and neighbors!
You can use them to keep your small plants safe in your garden. When your plants are small, just cut the top and bottom out with your can opener and place them around the plants. Helps keep the critters out and helps shield them from the wind!
Also work great to keep coals in place in your charcoal grill. Just place the briquets in the can (again, both ends are open), then when coals are super hot, just pull the can out with tongs. I think it helps keep them hotter longer.
You can use them to "correct" your dog. We put pennies in one with the lid, when our dog was a puppy, and every time he tried to do something he knew he shouldn't, we'd shake the can at him to get him to stop!
Makes a great noisemaker for kids. Put dry beans in it and let them shake it. Or just put the lid on, give them some wooden spoons and let them go to town on the drums!
You can use one as a make-shift double boiler too. If you need to melt chocolate or cheese or whatever, just place the clean can in a pan of super hot water and add what you need and stir! Works great in a pinch!
You can bake bread right in the can too!
You can roll up and store belts in them too!
Put one in the laundry room to hold dryer lint. Save the lint to start fires when camping or grilling!
Make a de-humidifier: Take the can and place salt in it. The salt will soak up much of the moisture in the air. (I haven't actually tried this one
)
Keep toilet paper dry when camping and taking your own is a must! It fits perfectly in the cans...well, maybe not the Mega rolls, but regular rolls do!
Kid's crafts:
You can make a mobile:
poke two holes in the top to hang a string, then poke holes in the bottom and let the kids attach sting and cool things they want to display!
or a "windsock":
Let the kids cover it with paper, then add paper streamers. Poke two holes in the top and add some string. Might not catch the wind really well, but the streamers will look cool!
or wind chimes: Again, poke the holes and hang some cool metal stuff that will clang together (old silverware works great)!
or make a piggy bank: just cut a hole in the lid and let them decorate!
or make a bird feeder!
I should add that these are all good uses for coffee cans too!

I made stilts (spelling?) for my kids, punch a hole in the bottom on either side and put a heavy cord or string through it. they hold the string and walk around on top of them on each foot. they painted and decorated them...

Wow! Thanks for all the great ideas. I've just been recycling them but I'd much rather re-use!

Not a tip for the cans, but I like the scoops. I have my creamer and sugar in collectible jars and use the scoops instead of a spoon. I leave the scoops in the jar.

I use my scoops for coffee and let the girls play with them in the tub.
