Default Uses for Sheets/Decorating with Sheets

I recently bought DS a new full-sz bed. I had sheets for it, but no bedspread. I took an old full-sz comforter and covered it with a "duvet" cover. I had 3 solid black twin top sheets, purchased at Wal-mart for $2.50 ea, which I had used as a backdrop for our 4-H exhibit last fall. I cut one in half lengthwise and sewed the half and the other 2 twin size together into a huge pillowcase. Then I slipped the old comforter inside.

DH's room has a St. Louis Cardinals theme, and the black comforter looks great. Plus, the leftover 1/2 of twin sheet will be made into curtains. Curtains plus comforter for $7.50!

In addition, my mom is making 4 throw pillows for DS's room with red flat sheet, purchased at Wal-mart @$2.50. I think it will match great!!

Finally, my mom is taking off some old silk pillow covers (they're getting kinda frayed) off the pillow forms to make the throw pillows. She plans to use the silk pieces to make doll clothes.

Final total: full sz comforter, 2 matching curtains, 4 pillows: $10.00...YaY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to mention that the red pillows will be made from a flat sheet that was originally used as a duvet cover for DS old twin bed. It was backed with a white sheet.

Maybe I could use the white sheet for something....?

    Thumbs up

    way to go!

I had a beautiful floral sheet set my grandma bought me as a kid (most likely very inexpensive years ago - when things were quality) anyway, I used the flat sheet and wrapped a really large bulletin board making one of those Martha Stewart looking boards for all my office notes, etc. I love it and think of my grandma every time.

Sheets are wonderful to cover anything with! They can be made in to drapes/curtains, duvet covers (as you said), shower curtains (on the outside of a plastic liner), you can easily cover dining chairs with them or make a slip cover with them.

When we lived in our apartment and couldn't paint or put up wallpaper, we had an "accent" wall in our spare bedroom, I used two twall bedsheets and tacked them up. Everyone who stayed with us absolutely loved that room!

Oh! I love it! Very creative and I'm sure it looks awesome! I love using old sheets. I am always looking for cool old sheets at thrift stores and yard sales! My kids' rooms all have 'sheet' curtains, and, Momto2Boyz, when I had white walls I had several sheets tacked up in various places! Right now I have a few old sheets, (70's floral prints that look nice together), that I want to tack on a few wooden frames, (I made the frames with scrap wood), and hang in my DD's room as wall art. I hope I get to that soon!

All of my windows have sheet curtains. We have a different color and theme in each room.

Those are great ideas. I've had a duvet made from sheets that I bought on sale. I'm excited to keep a look out for sheets this garage sale season, now. I need curtains for my bedroom!

I thought of shower curtains too. I don't sew, but a friend showed me how to take the pinch clip curtain hooks( like for cafe curtains) and use those to put it up.I have a vintage sheet, with a liner.
