Uses for empty cereal bags
I don't remember who wrote the post that I first read about saving the plasticky bags inside cereal boxes for reuse but what a helpful,$$$ saving tip that has been. Now that the family knows to save them too, we wash them and reuse again and again. I bought a paper towel holder that sits on the counter at a yard sale for .25 that is great for drying the bags, btw. Here are our favorite uses:
Carry them with me to the grocery store and use instead of their bags in the produce dept.
Store baked goods, closing the bag with a clothespin
Storing fresh herbs in the fridge. Nothing has ever kept herbs fresher longer for me.
Taking snacks with us on days when we'll be in the car for a while.
How do you reuse those handy bags?Erika

I also use them. I use them on my dehydrator rack. They last longer than regular wax paper.
I also place dough between two pieces and roll my dough.
I will have to try the fresh herb in them. Thanks

I wonder about using them in place of wax paper. Cereal bags used to be waxed, but now they are just plastic...

I'll have to try using them on my dehydrator rack. I've been using wax paper and it is a real pain.

I use mine when freezing stuff. First I put food in a cleaned freezer bag and then a cereal bag and staple closed. Lasts way longer in the freezer.
To use with shake n' bake instead of ziplock baggie
To mix little bits of different leftover cereals together and store
crush cookies and such for baking with rolling pin
store other plastic bags in
keep margarine/butter wrappers in frig

If your talking about the bags that actually hold the cereal in the cereal boxes, I love to use these when I'm pounding cutlets, their much stronger than wax paper, or even plastic wrap. The other use I save them for is wrapping sandwiches, I have a whole routine, open them up then clean them of crumbs, then fold them neatly and tuck them in a business size envelope box. Dh just shakes his head, What? It not like I'm making origami birds out of them! hahaha

I make up lots of hamburger patties and then freeze them with square of it in between each. I also use pieces in between chicken breasts and pork chops before freezing. Works MUCH better than regular wax paper.

I also cut them into pieces and use between pieces on meat in the freezer. Then wrap as usual. It sure keeps the meat from sticking together. I also cut to open up, and use to roll out pie dough on.

~I like to use them for cooling cookies. We like our cookies soft and chewy here. If you put a hot cookie one cooling rack it just oozes through but if you cut open a cereal bag and put the cookies on it they keep their shape. I also use them as covers for rising dough. I keep one piece lightly greased and folded to re-use over and over.~

I'm having a real "duh" moment here. I have never considered reusing these bags before. I am on a recycling kick and hate to throw anything away. My recycle center won't take plastic bags and I was just thinking the other day what a shame it was to throw these bags away. Thanks for posting this thread!
