I do it two ways.. one is to buy the binders with the magazine holder thingys.. they get a little pricey but they are nice. For a home made thing... Lay the box down and measure 4 inches from the bottom of the box up. then run a line around the box. Do not cut below this line, cause this is what keeps mags in. then from the top of the four inch line right bottom corner run a line from there to the left top corner (makes a triangle) then cut out, do it on the other side. then cut the last right side strip. it makes like a mag holder and you can see it..then i cut contact plastic and cover it, it makes it stronger. please .. i hope I explained it okay.. if not sorry.. i tried

I used Biz laundry boxes. I cut off the lid then used either elmer's glue or ModPodge glue to decoupage torn pieces of colorful papers all over the outside (used scrap construction paper, wrapping paper, etc.). They end up very sturdy.

I never pass up the nice plastic magazine thingeys at the thrift store, but you can make something similar with cereal boxes and covering them with tac paper or wallpaper. You cut out about 1/3 of the box at an angle like the plastic ones.

I like the ideas so far.
I also see some in freecycle.
The public library is ALWAYS tossing those things.
    Most expecially the University library.
    That's were I got a few.

    But.... here's what I do.

    I don't like clutter.
I like to read informative magazines related to my hobbies. Just like you
But I found that I cuoldn't locate what I was looking for when I needed it.

So..... I cut up the magazine! Eeeeee GADS!!!

I cut out the articles that I want to keep and put them in a binder. Labeled - projects I wanna do.

You KNOW which ones interest you. That's why you saved them.

But no sense in saving EVERYTHING when you really only want a few things in it. Besides the bulk of the magazine is advertisement anyway.

Instead of the bookshelf of magazines - you have one binder of stuff that REALLY interests you.

    just a thought.

Magazine binders seem the most efficient way to organize the magazines you want. Either that, you could take the pages out that you want and put them in a sheet protector into a notebook binder.

I just rip out the pages needed and shove em into page protectors and then into binders for easier reference at a later date/time.

I used to cut cereal boxes and fold flaps in on a diagonal to get the angled look to copy the cardboard magazine holders you see in stores for way more money. I used to receive flowers often and do did a co-worker. I collected the pretty floral paper that came around it and now I just cover the cereal box with it so no one knows.

It depends...my House & Home, Country Living and Taste of Home ect. mage that I only need parts of, I tear out and put it in a binder. My horse and riding magazines I keep whole because I go back to reference them down the road, so I do the whole decorated box thing too.

When I worked at a preschool, we liked to receive old magazines from parents to use for the children to cut up the pictures. An idea for those of you who just keep parts!!

I have magazines that I don't want cut up and have them stored in a shirt gift box. I label the box by magazine or subject (I have all the 9/11 mags) and they store easily under a bed or on a shelf.

I take small kitchen appliance boxes (I got one with my new coffee maker, another one with my new webcam and another with my little desk lamp). I cut the lid off them and cover them with an interesting newspaper article, sales ad from my fav. stores or Sunday comic pages (wrapped the boxes like a gift only leaving the top open of course). I use these for magazine storage. I also line them with those grocery store plastic bags and use them for small waste baskets in rooms I don't have really 'messy' trash like the bedroom and near the computer. When the wrapping gets messy, I'll just replace it. When the box gets destroyed somehow, I'll just toss it altogether.

Lots of good ideas here. I like the idea of reusing boxes to make your own storage boxes and have done the thing where I kept the articles I wanted in binders. These days I usually just scan the articles I really like and have them in different folders on my computer. This way I can easily pull up the article by subject (ie: frugality, organization, recipes, life lessons, etc.) Then I can recycle or pass along the magazines to a friend but still have the articles I love.
