Any gluing experts here? Please Help

Our toilet recently began to malfunction and I removed the lid until DH could repair it. Unfortunately, it fell and broke into two pieces. It's a clean break, and I was considering gluing it back together. It's a very heavy ceramic, of course, and I thought I might reinforce it on the back side, but I am wondering what type of glue to use. Something like gorilla glue would expand too much. Any suggestions?

boy, thats a tough one. You are correct about gorilla glue though.
Maybe try crazy glue, but I wouldn't count on it.

Is Gorilla Glue an epoxy? And do all epoxies expand?
I broke a jade statue once and the man at the hardware store was very helpful. This was an Ace hardware store and the person I asked had been around for a while... a long while - I love experience! The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

For ceramics you'll probably need to use a binary epoxy of some kind. Not sure what it would be though.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

rcannon, wow, that place has lots of lids! Too bad it's across the country from me.
Ceashels, I don't think all epoxies expand. I've about decided that gluing between the joint needs to be done with a thin glue and gluing underneath it could be done with an expanding glue. The edges have holes for stability and I think I could put dowels into those along with expanding glue.
Thanks for all of the responses!

What about using a wire mesh or small scale chicken wire between the ceramic and the dowels or over the dowels? The adhesion may be better from the increased surface area and you may have less weak points.

Great idea, Ceashels, but the holes just aren't that large. I've also thought of gluing into this sort of a metal plate onto the underside of the lid. Thanks.
