Need recipe help!
i'm looking to make 3 very inexpensive recipes. One is to be a dip (preferrably not a taco dip), one needs to be a finger type food and another sweet dip or swwet fingerfood (dessert type). I need all these recipes to also be extremely cheap.
Thanks!

Hmmm. one "finger" food I've seen is to take the Lil' Smokies and add a jar of grape jelly and heat. Serve with toothpicks.

One dip that is good is homemade hummus -- a few cans of Garbanzo beans a little garlic or whatever you like blend it all and ta da! Hummus great with crackers or pita bread.

You could do french onion dip (just a thing of sour creme + onion soup mix), celery with jelly or peanut butter for the second one, and ice cream sandwiches for the third. The ice cream sandwiches are just ice cream sandwiched between two Chips Ahoy cookies.

My favorite dip is a tub of sour cream mixed with Hidden Valley ranch powder. Goes great with chips and veggies.
I also like chopped green olives mixed with cream cheese for a cracker dip.
A block of cream cheese with a jar of salsa poured on top makes a great no-fuss dip for tortilla chips.
You could make a sweet yogurt dip to dip fruit, graham crackers, and cake bits in.
Hope that helps!

Cream cheese and spicy (horseradish) seafood sauce makes a fabulous dip for veg and crackers..soften the cream cheese, mix well with the seafood sauce then rechill before eating...
For a sweet dip, I make this..one package of instant vanilla pudding, 1 small package of cream cheese, and a dash of orange juice..blend well, and rechill...
For finger foods, I'd take a package of Pillsbury country style bisquits, quarter them, roll them out with a small rolling pin, and add a variety of fillings from savory to sweet-whatever you have on hand..canned spinach(drained) and grated cheese work nicely, so does any kind of pepperoni/salami type meat with a bit of swiss..you can also fill them with fruit fillings/jellies/pie fillings..fold over, crimp edges with a fork, brush with a beaten egg and then bake until golden...very cheap but very tasty.Last edited by chettasmom; 08-19-2008 at 09:52 PM.

You could definitely do a sour cream/ranch dip.
Or a clam dip for plain chips that is just a block of cream cheese softened and beaten, and adding a can of minced clams, drained.
Sausage balls for finger food (super fast and people seem to love them)
This recipe is usually found on the bisquick box
1 lb. pork breakfast sausage
3/4 lb. grated cheddar cheese
2 1/2 C. of bisquick or similar baking mix
mix together well, make small balls and bake 325 for 20-25 minutes.
A dessert or sweet finger food that's not that expensive, maybe a great cookie or brownie recipe.
Or grab a jar of marshmallow creme and make the fudge recipe on the back.
You can't go wrong with chocolate and fudge.

For a sweet treat, you can get a tub of the already made cheesecake filling (chocolate or vanilla) and a box of vanilla wafers, you can either use it as a dip or make cheesecake bites (put a dollop of cheesecake on each wafer). Very yummy.
Soften a block of cream cheese and put a jar of pepper jelly over it, dip with crackers.
Another cheap dessert idea (but would require bowls or plates, etc) is to layer a slice of pound cake, frozen strawberries, and cool whip. Make the same layers again in the same order, and get one fresh strawberry to cut and fan out at the top. I put mine in a large glass bowl (the kind with the straight sides).
