Anyone ever run their sponges through the dishwasher to revive them?

No, haven't tried that. Does it work?

I've done this, but even easier is to put it in a cup of water and microwave it for 30 sec - 1 minute.

I throw mine in that washer, when I wash a load of white clothes. I don't have a dishwasher.

I've done the micro thing too. I saw on "Tip-ical Mary Ellen" that you just wet the sponge and microwave it for 30? seconds. It kills all the germs but does not "revive" it.

I soak in bleach water and then microwave in regular water. If it's too bad, I just toss them.

~I put a Tbs of bleach and a cup of water in a flat bowl or container and soak the sponge overnight.
Running it through the dishwasher or microwaving seems to shorten a sponge's life in my experience.~~Constance

it doesnt revive it. gets germs out - but only if you microwave for at least 55 seconds when it is out of dishwasher.

I usually put them in the dishwasher. However, I use knit dishcloths more than I use sponges. And when I use those I toss them in the washer with my towels and disinfect that way.
Here is some more information about cleaning sponges:

I use staining pads (foam rubber covered with terry cloth). I throw 'em in the washing machine with the rags.

The few times I do use a sponge I soak it in bleach and hot water for a while as soon as I'm done using it. .
