    Default Jalopena Burn Advice

Help DD tried to make my jalopena poppers but forgot the most important step of oiling her hands first.
Anyone ever had that burning sensanion from peppers??
Any advice on cooling the burn?

So far I've tried cool wet rag
    Desitine Ointment
    An Apple cider vinegar soak
    Nothing has worked so far!

I second the milk idea... yogurt or sour cream should also help.

Oh yeah.....OUCH. The good news is unless she's terribly allergic it should be a LOT better by tomorrow. Except for that little release of capsaicin when she picks up something sort of heavy or applies pressure to the ends of the fingers (seems to stay under the nails and come back to life with pressure...... ). Sorry to hear it, keep hands away from eyes at all costs.......

hope the milk worked. I did that one time. My nursing teacher recommended hydrocortisone cream.

The fastest remedy is to use a cleaning product that contains chlorine bleach (like Chlorox Clean Up), or even a dilute bleach solution (like 10% bleach, 90% water). Capsaicin (the oil in peppers that makes them hot) is easily destroyed by a strong oxidizing agent like bleach. Hope that helps. Pepper burn is no fun. It's really no fun if you accidentally rub your eyes. BTDT. There's nothing to do for that, except water, water, water, and time. lol

Oh, also, it's a good idea to use bleach to clean all cutting surfaces and knives after preparing hot peppers, too, or you could end up with a nasty surprise the next time you use them.

I always wash my hands with lemon juice. Seems to do the trick. It neutralizes the burn and taste (if you ever stick your finger in your mouth!!). I've been making a lot of Jalapino jelly lately, and have to de-seed. Of course I haven't worn gloves DUH. But the lemon juice does the trick.

Thanks for the bleach and lemon juice suggestions. Will file them away for future use.
We make lots of jalopena poppers here and my skin is tough from years of exposure to sun and paint thinners. But hers hasn't reach that leather point yet.
