Unhappy Removing fridge magnets that will not budge!!

I'm busy preparing our current rented flat to have an agency inspection and viewings as we are moving out, and I have come across a sticky problem! I've not really posted here before but everyone here seems to have lots of good ideas from what I've read already!

I love having all kinds of magnets on fridge doors, but I also have a tendancy to spill EVERYTHING, notably down the front of the fridge.. I must have had over 40 magnets on there, and have managed to get all of them off, save two.

They were all quite well stuck on, but these two, wow, they are not budging. They're thin kind of magnets, part of a fridge magnet chess set which has followed us everywhere we have lived. And they will just NOT come off!!

I have tried holding a hot, soapy sponge against them to loosen them, poured boiling water and hot vinegar down the fridge over them, using turps, nail polish remover, whisky (!!) to no avail. I have managed to get parts of them off by digging under them with a sharp knife, but this is a.) scratching the fridge and b.) I have cut myself doing this. They are now in bits but still stuck!!

Any ideas?? I don't care about how much I have to destroy them to get them off, I just need them off without scratching the fridge too much!!

The hardware store near you should sell plastic scrapers in the drywall tools department. That should wedge between the magnet and the fridge w/o (hopefully) damaging the fridge itself.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Try something oily like spray and wash, or goof off adhesive remover. Liquid dish soap??

One of my favorite tools is the little plastic clip thingy that comes on a loaf of bread to keep it closed. Put some baby oil around your magnet with a q-tip, let sit a few min. & try to scape it off with the plastic bread closer thingy. hth.

First, never do that to good whiskey again. Thats alcohol abuse.

You can try squirting some WD-40 on it and let it soak. WD-40 will remove adhesive.

Try heating alittle with a hair drier. I've removed many a stuck sticky item by heating it alittle with a hair dryer.
Then use your plastic scraper or old credit card to scrape it off. A good way to recycle those old credit cards your not using anymore.

I was going to suggest the hair dryer too. It's the same idea you had with the hot water. If it's really stuck though, the water can't get behind to warm and loosen it. The hair dryer will heat the whole thing up nicely.

That's exactly what future DH said when I told him I'd done it!

I've tried the WD-40, let it soak, tried scraping and..... nothing. Didn't shift them at all. Yikes. Might try it again though, see if a second application might kick it...

I'm going to try the hairdryer too, gonna see if I can find the non-travel one that gets hotter..

Keep the ideas coming please guys, I'm starting to get a bit desperate lol.

have you tried using a plastic or wooden spatula??? Might give you some leverage and shouldn't scratch the fridge.

    Good Luck,

I have tried yes, but (its so hard to describe, you'd have to see it really) there is absolutely NO way you could get even the thinnest of spatulas/scrapers underneath any part of them to actually lever at all, they are stuck that hard and close to the fridge. It is 'magnet' all the way across, not a magnet stuck to the back of a picture kinda thing. Do y'see what I mean?
