cheapest birthcontrol?
My husband and I recently got married and spend more than we would like on "protection". We are thinking about maybe getting a perscription or the shot. Was just wandering if anyone knew the cheapest pill. -thanks
Oh and if using IUD would come out to be less expensive in the long run?

When I was in the military, I got that Depoprivera (is that how it's spelled?) shot in my arm for my form of birth control. I know that basically any public health department will offer some form of birth control for free or at low cost to people. I know my sister also got that shot in the arm for free through the health clinic in my hometown.

Target and I think Wal-Mart sell generic BC pills at $8/month. This is out of pocket, not through insurance.
I'm on Tri-Sprintec the generic version of Ortho-Tri-Cyclen

Have you tried the local Planned Parenthood around you? They offer sometimes FREE if you dont have medical insurance birth control, pap smears and all that other womanly goodies.

Cheapest? Abstinence LMAO ummm....seriously, condoms would be cheapest, I was on the shot after losing my left tube and ovary and still got pregnant, I also got pregnant on the generic birth control!! So after 6 kids, those choices don't work for me!!
They wont give me a hysterectomy, (endometriosis, long story!!) I am on Yasmin 28 and have been NON-Prego for almost 8 years wooohooo.....lookin to talk to hubby about the "V" option soon as I don't want to live on these for the rest of my life at $67 a month!!!!!
I would go with the planned parenthood!! Thats good advice right there!! Or your local health nurse!
Good luck

The depo shot costs me about $90 bucks every 3 months. Plus, eventually it takes away your period so no "feminine products".

I just looked into this, and with my health insurance, getting the Mirena IUd (that lasts 5 years) would only cost me the $15 one time office visit to insert it- I'm all OVER that instead of paying $20+ a month for some other form of protection I have to remember to fuss with one way or another....especially as we don't plan on having nay more kids anytime soon, if ever (we have a 2 yo, 3 month old and my 10 yo from previous marriage). According to my Doc, you can become pregnant shortly after removing it too. the best choice for me for mnay reasons, including economic- though i haven't had it put in yet as I get nervous it will interfere with breast feeding my little one (though they SWEAR it won't, I struggle enough with it, don't to risk it).
Oh, and it's allegedly as 'sure' as getting your tubes tied, though this would be reversable!Last edited by khaski; 10-07-2008 at 08:03 PM.

They just came out with generic forms of Yasmin. I was on Yasmin and I just got the generic form of it the last time I got it.Cheapest? Also, look at your insurance's website. I found out that ours has an "online pharmacy". I can get the generic version for $10 a month by ordering a 3 month supply. And, that also means it comes in the mail, no hitting the pharmacy every month!Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

I recomend the book taking charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. Check out Amazon. This is the only method of birth control that works for us. This is natural birth control. This is NOT the rythum method, which has a high failure rate. This recommended to us years ago and we could not be happier with it. Cost free, drug free, easy, foolproof. It is also a good book for when you want to get pregnant as well as not.

A friend of mine just got pregnant even with an IUD. Her midwife said "oh I did too".

I never understood how that IUD works... one of them is non-hormonal and just "blocks" sperm... My first response was abstinence, then no hanky panky during ovulation days...
I ditto going to Planned Parenthood, they have the PACT program for low-income... I'm in CA, so it may not be a nationwide thing... I've heard of ordering meds from Mexico or Canada because it's cheaper, but I dunno if that's legal or not.... or safe...
I personally have never been on any birth control besides condoms, so I may not be the best one to give advice... but that's my 2 cents...
