    Default Cheap Draft Stopper

Instead of the towel in front of the door I make a draft stopper. They had similar ones advertised on tv but I refused to pay $20 so I made my own. You take 12" of material about 36" wide (I have X-mas and Halloween and plain) Make lines across at 5 1/2" and 6 1/2" then fold the material to those lines sew them and then sew across one end. Stuff each side with polyfill tightly I use a ruler to pack it in, then sew that end closed. Then you slide it under your door and you have a log on each side. When you open and close the door it moves with the door so you don't have to constantly replace it after the door is closed. It blocks the drafts, is convenient and costs about $1.50 to make it's also washable.

The first one I made I used a pair of old sweat pants that I was going to throw away because I didn't have any material and I used the filling from an old pillow. So you don't even have to buy material to make one.

Hmmm. I like this idea. I noticed the other day that the front door to my new apartment has a crack at the top - I could see sunlight! But it's uneven, from a real gap on one side to flush on the other. I was thinking weatherstripping might not work too well because of that. I wonder if one would work on the top of an outside door. I could use some outdoor type material. I might give it a shot. Not much to lose.

    Thanks for the idea.

    Thanks for the idea
