    Default Vacuum cleaner recommendation

My little Hoover is starting to cough and sputter, so I am looking for a new vacuum cleaner. I am VERY hard on my cleaners, as I live out in the middle of the country, so a lot of stuff gets tracked in. Dirt, mud, hay, etc. In addition, because I have birds, add seed hulls, feathers, and bits of food that have been flung about.

I need a vacuum cleaner that has a GOOD suction, and that also can withstand some hard use, and that is relatively easy to clean out (change the bag or filter or whatever).

Just wondering what you all use and why you either love it or hate it.

I love my Bissell. I was going to spend a fortune on a Dyson (I had one with my ex years ago) and found a Bissell on sale 50% off. It looked like a Dyson and the online reviews were great. I have had it about 6 months now and I'm in love with it. DH was a big Kirby fan and I've swayed him to my side now, he had to admit my Bissell was better than his Kirby.
Mine is easy to empty, flip a lever and the whole container comes out. No bags!
