Icer's
Icer's. Snow studded tires for your feet.
http://www.durgan.org/ShortURL/?DEHPA 11 October 2008 Icer's. Snow studded tires for your feet.
There are various anti-slip devices for the bottom of shoes. I have tested most, and find this type, only available this year, to be the best by far. The Icer slips on, and stays on most types of footwear. To prevent slipping the studs are uniquely set to prevent slipping in all directions. With icers it is essential that there be studs near the heel.
Other dangerous types of icer's are the simply one which is a strap under the front of the shoe-sure injury sooner or later. Another dangerous Icer is the spring assembly type.
The type depicted cost $22.50, and is Made in the USA, and lasts a full season under normal circumstances. I bought mine at a Lee Valley center.
Here is the URL of the manufacturer.

Thanks for the recommendation Durgan. I've been hemming and hawing over these or the Yaktrax for a while now.

Last year we bought the yaktrax, and immediately found that they were dangerous, since they slip on smooth ice or even on a smooth floor near the door. I consider them dangerous to wear.
As mentioned I tried all the different treads and two things, there has to be studs near the heal to prevent slipping when the forward foot first touches the ground, and the studs should have sharp edges to some degree.
With the studs one walks on ice as if on bare pavement, since slipping is eliminated. Last year I wore the studs all the time when outside.Durgan

Thanks! What wears out, the rubber? These are definately going on my birthday list, I'm tired of walking around in the winter like I'm a little old lady getting ready to fall any second.
If you or anyone is looking to buy these, Cabellas has a good sale going on them. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...0055188620769a~*Darlene*~

Good price. This type has good rubber. The new design is much superior, since it appears the cleats are embedded right into the rubber.
The type I used last year had sort of soft rivet type cleats, and they eventually flattened, with slightly reduced traction, and one cleat broke loose. The rubber did break on one side but it was still adequate. Actually I was more than pleased with this type.Durgan

Never got my icers for Christmas & guess who hurt her knee on the slick ice that is all over her driveway. In looking online I came across a product recall for some models of the Icers at LL Bean, just wanted to give people a heads up. The black ones are not in the recall.

My brother has used these for a few years carrying heavy items to construction sites and has never had a problem. I bought them on his recommendation. Sometimes when people use items like this they are not careful enough
