    Default mustard and ketchup bottles

i don't know if this helps anyone.....but yesterday i was making homemade baked beans. i had a mustard jar that was about empty that i had saved in the refrigerator. so i just added water into it to get the remaining mustard out and added to my baked beans.

also when i have a ketchup bottle with a small amount that i can't get out, i save it in the fridge ,add water and pour it into my spagetti sauce.

salad dressing....same thing....add tiny amount of water and when i am making a cold pasta salad i add it. the pasta will always absorb the small amt. of water.

any other tips on non-waste out there? i'd love to hear them!!

I do that with ketchup, too. And I do something similar with empty honey jars: fill them with water, put them into the fridge, and use the honey-water for baking.

Ketchup... in gravy? My ancestors would haunt me forever...

BUT.. I do save the last bits of things to use for cooking/baking a little water & oil and I'm back in business. I have even used a butter wrapper to grease my pans.

If I am boiling veggies, I will save use the water in making mashed potatoes.

I use the last bit of ketchup in the bottle the same way, I use it when I make sweet and sour sauce for meatballs or what ever, water and ketchup goes in the recipie anyway so I swish the water around in the bottle to get the remaining bit of ketchup out.

[QUOTE=Lady_V;1025557][FONT=Century Gothic][SIZE=3][COLOR=Purple]Ketchup... in gravy? My ancestors would haunt me forever...

lol my ex sister-in-law made a pretty mean spagetti sauce. when i asked her for the recipe........it had a certain amount of ketchup in it. that was many, many, many moons ago. but i always remembered it. i never make it that way, my recipe is more traditional. but, it was a good way to use up my leftover ketchup....hehehe.

i like the idea of using it in meatballs with sweet and sour sauce........i'm going to try that........thanks!

I store bottles and jars of thick stuff (mustard, mayo catsup, honey, peanut butter etc) upside down. That way, the concentrated condiment is readily available whenever I need it. Letting gravity do the work, I very seldom need to add water to clean out the last bits of 'goodness'.

I store mine upside down and then add water for the very last bit.

I'm trying to figure out what I can use the empty bottles for - other than recycling. Any ideas?
