    Default Registered offenders

I noticed on another forum that there was talk about registered offenders in the area they lived and they was worried about the kids and Halloween. I don't know how many know, but there are websites where you can check your own neighborhood for offenders in your area so you will feel like you know if you need to be on a closer watch with your children. I thought maybe some of you would like the address to be able to check out your area. It can be an eye opener!

It really is surprising how many times you don't know your neighborhood, and as a mother it does make you feel a little safer to know what you need to watch for, or whom you might need to watch for.

    here's another one.
The problem w/ this is, you know who is registered. You don't know who hasn't been caught yet.

Thanks for posting this. We do need to be aware of what's going on around us and our children. Even with information like these registries, we have to keep our guard up.

I did a neighborhood check using Florida's sex offender site, and our neighborhood came up clean. Little did I know but a man on the street behind my house, on the other side of the fence belonging to my community, was awaiting trial for over 5 years for crimes against children. He wasn't a registered predator or offender because he wasn't convicted yet. He's now serving 2 life sentences for what he did to children. I can't imagine what his victims and their families went through. There was really no one keeping tabs on him for those 5 years.

The important thing is to be vigilant, use the tools that we have to protect our children and talk to them. Thank you so much for bringing attention to this issue.

    Default Sex Offenders

I know I work with law enforcement and it makes me mad I have a small child and three live within a half a mile of me and I know what they did and it makes me sick. I had one move next to where she went to school and my childcare provider called me and told me the state worker contacted her and advised her about it and I had to report him to his probationer and we had to wait 60 days before we had him removed.

As a single mama, I also check to see if anyone that I date is registered. Can't be too careful...It is a scary world.

I totally agree everyone should check out the KNOWN offenders in their area- and keep in mind not to be lulled into a false sense of security by registries- many offenders are NOT known. Common sense goes a long way here as everywhere else.
