Yes, my great grandmother was from the Ukraine. My paternal grandfather was from Czechoslavakia. And my maternal grandfather was from Lithiuania. So I grew up eating all kinds of slavic foods.

Sauteed onions, carrots, celery. Mixed with browned sausage and noodles. Add some water from cooking the noodles to make a sauce. The seasonings from the browned sausage makes a really good sauce.

My first cookbook was Low Fat Five Ingredient Cookbook. I'm not sure if it's still in print. Most of the recipes were quite tasty.

Last night I had to make a quick meal on the fly. This is what I came up with, it only has 5 ingredients.
    Meatball Soup
    1 can diced tomatoes
    1 box chicken broth
    1/2 bag frozen meatballs
    2 cups uncooked pasta
1/2 bag frozen California Mix Veggies

Combine diced tomatoes, chicken broth, and meatballs. Bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes. Add pasta and Veggies and cook until pasta is done.

    Simple, easy, and quick.

    Meal 1-
    Rice, black beans, cheese, tomatoes.
Cook rice, too with hot black beans, cheese, and tomatoes.

    Meal 2-
Chicken, panko beadcrumbs, parmesean cheese, brown rice, brocolli.
Cook brown rice. Coat chicken in breadcrumbs and parm, pan sear and then bake, near the end steam brocolli. A complete meal!

    Meal 3-
Rotisserie chicken from the grocer, wheat bread, light Mayo, celery, and olives.
I'm weird and like olives in chicken salad. Shred the chicken and mix with Mayo, celery, and olives. Smear it on bread and enjoy.

    Meal 4-
Egg whites, turkey bacon, parm cheese, tomatoes, and milk.
Mix egg whites with cheese. Cook turkey bacon. You can either eat all things separately and drink the milk, or make it an eggwhite omlette.

    Meal 5-
Low sodium chicken broth, carrots, peas, cheap cut of meat, and a bay leaf.
Made this two days ago. In a slow cooker add all ingredients except bay leaf. After about 5 hours shred the meat, it should be tender enough at that point. Add bay leaf. Cook another hour. Done. You can also add cornstarch or flour (a sixth ingredient) and thicken it to make a stew.

    Dressed-Up Chicken Casserole

One Bag of Pepperidge Farm Stuffing Mix
    1 stick of margarine, melted
1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1 carton of sour cream
4 boiled boneless skinless chicken breasts, shredded

Melt margarine in microwave for 30/60 seconds. Pour stuffing mix in big bowl and pour melted margarine on top. Incorporate margarine into stuffing mix.

In another bowl, mix sour cream of cream of mushroom soup. Spray bottom and sides of a 9x13 pan. Spread half of stuffing mix in bottom of pan. Put all shredded chicken on top of stuffing mix. Then add all the sour cream mixture on top of chicken.

Add the rest of the stuffing mix on top of sour cream mixture. Pour chicken stock or water on top of stuffing mixture until stuffing is well moistened.

    Bake at 350º for 20 - 30 minutes.

    Tonight's dinner:

Spinach & meatball soup: sauteed onion and carrot, veg broth, tiny meatballs made from bulk sausage (or sliced links), and chopped fresh spinach. (Or in my case, chard from the garden).

A dash of italian seasoning would make it 6 ingredients, but how hard is that?

Another favorite: saute diced chicken, heat a can of coconut milk, add frozen veg, a chicken bullion cube or curry seasoning, and pour all of that over rice.

    Heck 5 is easy

    One of my favorites
    Swedish meatball casserole.

    1) 1/2 pound of ground beef browned and drained. Set aside. $1.00
1 can cream of mushroom soup .49
1/4 bag frozen french cut green beans .50
1 package of ramen noodles, creamy chicken flavor. .33
    Sour cream

Add soup and two cans of water to a 2 qt sauce pan Bring to a near boil add noodles and beans and seasoning packet. Cook until just beginning to thicken. Add cooked beef. Let stand for 5 minutes.
Top with sour cream. Salt and pepper to taste.

Cost of meal for two. $2.32 or leftovers for one.

    Another one
    Tomato vegetable soup.
1 package or ramen noodles Chili lime flavor
    1 can tomato soup
    1/4 bag of brocoli cuts.

Can use leftover chicken or beed in this as well.

Add 1.5 cans water to soup and broccoli. bring to near boil. Add noodles and seasoning and cook until done.
    Salt and pepper to taste.

Can substitute milk for 1 can of water.

    Hearty chicken soup.
    1 can chicken noodle soup
    3 cans water
    2 chicke bullion cubes
1 chicken thigh, breast or 2 legs.
    1/2 bag frozen mixed veggies.

First put the chicken meat in a 2 qt pan and boil until very tender. I season the water with some salt and rosemary.
Remove chicken, reserve water. Measure out water to equal about 4 cups. Add condensed soup and bullion and veggies and simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove chicken from bones and shred and add to soup. Season to taste and serve.
