Default Frugal tips you HATE seeing (and yet see over and over)

The tip I hate seeing and yet it seems to appear over and over and over is unless you are working 24/7 or only doing things that *generate income* you are MAJORLY wasting time. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I worked full time, and worked out, made meals, did the cleaning, and the shopping for the week and (sometimes) worked overtime, I was pretty well done at the end of the day.

I'm just too bloody tired to start a business, have a second job or read only things that will help my bottom line. I feel a little rest and relaxation helps renew you for your FULL TIME job.

I always feel those kind of suggestions are written by guys who have wives that pick up the slack.

I guess I wouldn't mind the suggestion if it wasn't accompanied with an air of "holy then thou" feeling, kwim? Just because THEY are doing it and YOU aren't somehow that makes them better and you, scum.

I don't mind all sorts of suggestions, it is just that whole "frugaler then thou" air that gets me a little. I've stopped reading certain blogs because every post has that feeling.

Anybody else see tips that just hate seeing?

    ~KB

P.S. Am I making any sense?

I agree. It's not so much that there are certain tips that I dislike seeing all the time (though it does get old at times), but the "frugaler than thou" mentality is something I have noticed quite a few times, and yes, that gets to me badly. What's the point of being frugal if it doesn't contribute to you having a more fullfilling and satisfying life?

'the satelite dish has to go' the Old Man works for Dish...

I think my ' frugal tip' is... "Turn the gas off and coast downhills".

Right... save gas by not having it run through when going downhill... Don't mind that truck at the bottom, when you total your car because you can't properly turn the wheel or accelerate out of the way... you'll be proud of the .0001 cent of gas you saved
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I personally hate seeing the tip "rinse out your baggies and reuse the aluminum foil.

You can buy baggies and aluminum foil at the dollar store. It really isn't THAT important to me to save $3 per month for these items.

Yea, my post in the health section today gives all the details! Thanks for the laugh though. Usually I'm pretty laid back and have a live and let live sort of attitude.

I guess I just needed to vent a little.

The one I get tired of is don't buy $4.00 coffee every day, and don't eat out lunch every day. DUH!!

Don't get me wrong, I know people like their Starbucks every now and then, and if you can afford it great. But if you can't pay your bills and you are eating out every day and buying expensive coffee every day then you just don't have all the smarts you were born with IMHO.

What just gets me these days is how many people die heartily believe they *deserve this and that* when they have SO MUCH debt! (mortgage excluded) I'm just sick of this attitude, but of course that has been the *norm* so all of us trying to be smart and not *living a little* are freaks.

Man, there is more bothering me then I thought! I guess I just needed to vent.

~"Cancel the extras in your phone service like call waiting" Thank you for that amazing tip that will save ...$36 a year...um...oh is that all?
Also hate the "Make your own gourmet coffee at home and save $5000 this year!" It's a bit hard to imagine that if the need arose to cut back somewhere a person wouldn't think it was obvious to give up $4 coffees.
You can pretty much google 'ways to save money this year' and come up with all sorts of irritating and useless tips. I think the ones that annoy me most are the ones that save a pittance or the ones that are incredibly obvious. I'm glad the tips are out there though for those are are really really really clueless about money but it's frustrating for me trying to wade through all the stupid tips to get to one I can actually use.~

Oh, you don't want to get me started! Somethings just don't work for me. I can't get my head around the change jar/spend only bills thing. I don't get it. I save x amount when I get paid, so I need my change for my purchases for the next 2 weeks. And I agree w/OP about working more (extra hours or 2nd job) or changing jobs to make more money. Seems to me if I can adjust my expenses why do I need to make more money? Maybe I should be more ambitious, but I love my time off more than the money I could make.

I like all the tips about little savings because I've already done anything that results in a big savings, plus I think the big things are a lot more obvious (or at least should be) but some of the little things you might never think of on your own.

For example, I would have never thought to wash out freezer bags or milk bags until I read it on this site about 2 years ago. Since then it's saved me about $150 (freezer bags are 2.99 for 15, I would need to buy a pack every two weeks if I didn't reuse). On the other hand, I don't need someone to tell me that I could save money by eating out less, I'm not stupid.

What I hate are all the tips about saving money by getting your designer clothes/fragrances/purses, Porsches, etc. at some great discount place.

personally I just read all the tips and if it is one I don't use then I just disregard it. Sometimes people have posted some tips which I had honestly never heard of or thought of and the lightbulb goes off, wow, that is an idea !!
