    Red face Rationing

Lately I've been really trying to watch for sales and stock up on items we use when the price is right. The problem is - that just because I have more, doesn't mean I want to use more! For example, the coffee beans we love have been $15.99 bag for the past year. So when they go on for $10.99/bag I hit the sirens and go out shopping! I checked the expiry dates (they're good until August 2009) and bought 4 bags of coffee. We already have a bag of Christmas coffee gifted to us for this month. So I confronted Dh - the notorious coffee drinker and sometimes coffee waster

And I said, we are only going to use one bag of coffee per month. I will put a month label on each bag, and we can't open the bag until it is that month. And Dh said ...OK!!

So now I'm going through my stockpile, checking expiry dates so that they are used up on time, but also putting month stickers on them, so that they are not used up too soon! (Cookies and chips ALWAYS disappear much faster than the canned tomatoes!) As any moms out there know, kids have a limit on how many cookies they can have from the jar. Well, I'm slapping down that cookie lid, it's time for the adults to do a little rationing!

Sometimes I think I'm not an adult at all - there are a few things that if stockpiled are eaten until they're gone. There are some things I've decided I just cannot bring into the house anymore except one at a time and in the smallest package available. Like chips.

How come it's always the things that are so bad for you are doomed to such a short life in the stockpile?

Rationing is definitely a good idea. If I could make it stick ...

I think rationing is a good idea. Gotta tell myself that when Cheetos are in the house. We do watch very carefully though and dh even uses his teabags more than twice. He is really good at this.

I have to hide things like chips, granola bars, and cereal from DH. And with things like toiletries, he'll open a new tube of toothpaste before the old one's completely finished if he knows where it is

I refuse to bring a lot of sweets in the house, and with it just being DH and me, there's no reason to do so. I don't have the willpower to leave them alone, either!

I sometimes worry about not using up my pantry items fast enough! I would like to start canning or food preserving somehow.

I agree on food rationing for adults. It's just Dh and I and baby on the way. We got a small package of Christmas cookies from my sister in the mail yesterday. There must have been 18 homemade cookies and we are down to six. That means Dh and I ate a dozen cookies yesterday between us! I shared in a way, but I don't think I needed to share 6 cookies with a baby the size of a grape at the moment.
