Stretchmarks: Pls help...
I am pregnant and want to know if anyone has had any luck with skin care for stopping stretchmarks? I have heard that some are not safe to use and can harm my baby but I am so confused by which ones are ok and actually work to prevent stretchmarks, as I happily grow into my 9 month bump!

I read something not long ago about applying Vitamin C fluid. You might talk to your physician about it. Consumption of foods high in Vitamin C may be beneficial as well (another issue to take up with your physician). I'd vote for a food-source over suplements. There are factors in the whole fruit that aren't found in supplements.
Personally, I think it has to do with our genetic predisposition to stretch marks. Some people get them, some don't. My husband has them on the backs of his thighs, lower back, and shoulders from running hurdles as a teen.

I used a lotion called, "Mothers friend" that my Mother used, and her mother used!
It worked great for me!
Good luck!

I used cocoa butter several times a day with both of my pregnancies and still got them. I asked my doctor early on for any recommendations to help and he said nothing really works it is genetic.

I don't know if there's a rhyme or reason as to who gets them. My mother and my sister both had 4 pregnancies with 1 being twins for both--neither one of them got a single stretch mark!
On the other hand, I had one pregnancy, used lotion faithfully, and still got them.
Go figure!

Sorry honey, it's genetics. My grandmother never got one, with 17 children, her MIL was horribly marked having only 1. My mom and I both got them. Dr said all the creams are a money grab, they do help to keep the skin from getting dry, I found that my belly got really dry during pregnancy, but beyond that, it doesn't do anything more.

It comes down to genetics and luck. I thought I would get through my first pregnancy unscathed, but ended up with a lovely crop of stretch marks as soon as I hit 9 months. Lotion might make your belly feel better and less itchy, but I wouldn't count on it for preventative purposes.

Hey! Congrats on your pregnancy, I am 3 months pregnant and have had 8 girlfriends all use this product called belli skin care, Elasticity Belly Oil that helps to prevent stretchmarks. Their doctor told them it was the safest to use, then I saw it on a current affair the other night as well. I read up all about in on their website and it talks heaps about what is safe, really interesting. None of my friends got ANY stretchmarks at all and swear by this for stopping stretch marks. I have only just started using it but so far so good! I ordered all of their other skin care for pregnancy as well from belliskincare.com.au and LOVING it. Wish you all the best for the months ahead, we are together in the skin stretch J don’t forget to join the VIP thing on their site before you order, you get a discount that way, i forgot myself but definitely worth it you get 15% off. Good luck.

stretch marks
Hi,
I used to have pretty bad stretch marks and red scars around my belly region ever since I gave birth to my three kids.I had tried Vitamin E oil and cocoa butter which a number of people had recommended but unfortunately it didn't seem to work too well. My Doctor had even suggested that I go for a Tummy Tuck. I then recently read an article about a lady who supposedly got rid of her stretch marks using a particular cream. I tried it and it worked really well. It took a number of weeks but my stretch marks soon faded away. You can read the lady's article at the link below.

drink lots of water and moisturize....thats basically all you can do. I went nuts my first pregnancy trying to stop them. but if you stay hydrated inside and out its not so bad.
but genetics is a b(tch lol

Everyone is right on about it coming down to genetics. Since the stretchmark is a separation of the collagen under your skin, slathering on moisturizers will do nothing to bring your skin back together, or keep it from separating. It will keep you soft and help with itching if you get that. Staying hydrating will help with the suppleness of your skin from the inside out, and trying to not gain too much weight or too quickly will certainly help. Some women are just lucky and can get big bellies and never get a single mark, I gained about 8 lbs and got covered.
And it happened overnight, I swear it. lol. Best of luck with your pregnancy and I hope you are one of those lucky women.

I used the Palmer's massage lotion for stretch marks and who knows if they really prevented/minimized the stretch marks as advertised. I have a map to China on my belly. It did help me a bit with the itching, but that's about it. I think all those creams are just a marketing ploy.

I've heard coconut oil does amazing stuff for preventing stretch marks. I love the stuff, just wish I had known about it before I had my boys.

I used baby oil that contained vitamin E and Lanolin after my showers before drying off. I also believe staying hydrated from the inside really helps. I drank a lot of water and had a small glass of OJ each morning...I thought maybe the extra "C" might help. My mom and my 3 sisters got a lot of stretch marks with their pregnancies. I have 2 kids and no stretch marks to show for it. Maybe I just got lucky but I highly recommend the baby oil thing.

It also helps if you don't do what I did and gain 40+ lbs.....the more you gain, usually the bigger the baby gets and there ya go.....
Congrats on the pregnancy! Enjoy every minute, the stretchmarks are worth it
