Post Post Office Hold Mail Service

~You can have the P.O. stop and start home delivery through their website. It literally took me 30 seconds to request this service. And now I can go on vacation without worrying about our W-2's sitting in the mailbox. https://holdmail.usps.com/duns/HoldMail.jsp ~

Neat! But if you can, I'd leave a note or talk to your regular carrier too. Sometimes things get "messed up" through the PO channels. It's probably ok but knowing the po with the stories hubby has told me (he's a carrier) I'd just make double sure. I'll ask him about it when he gets home. Sorry to be a po downer, lol.

We did this when we went on vacation for a week to my inlaws' house. They held the mail for two weeks minimum and we could pick up mail at any time. They also kept all parcels at the local pick-up station, which was great for us since we had a few coming after we left.

Glad it worked for you! Talked to hubby and he said it sometimes doesn't and it's not unheard of that the carrier finds out about it 5 days after. If you have a regular carrier and give the right amount of advanced notice it may work ok. He says your best bet is to have a reliable neighbor bring in your mail.
He also says to do as much business online (banking, bill paying etc.) that you can lol.
Just a disgruntled mail carriers (who is ecstatically retiring from the USPS in a months time) advice.

Thanks for the tip!! They held our mail when our house was getting re-modeled and the mailbox got taken down.

We have done this for years - I wish more folks would take advantage of it.

But we have to pick up the mail at a neighboring post office because our "official" post office is too small to hold onto mail. Just no room!

I agree with this---AND/OR having a trusted friend or relative stop over once while you are gone to make sure there's nothing in there. We've had a bit 'o' trouble with this.
