Default Want to keep celery crisp and fresh longer?

My Grandma turned me on to this trick. Take celery stalk out of the plastic bag in comes in and wrap in in foil. It will stay fresh and crisp for a long time. I have had mine in the fridge for over two weeks and it is as fresh as the day I bought it. Also my Dad taught me if your celery is limp you can cut off a little bit of the bottom of the stalk to expose fresh stalk then set it in a jar of cold water overnight. The celery will "drink" up the water and crisp up again.

I just "taught" Dave the re-crisping tip for celery yesterday. It was crisp w/in an hour or so.

I got a half-gallon Tupperware pickle keeper in a big bag of other Tupperware at Goodwill a while back. It doesn't have the inner part to lift the pickles out of the brine, and I thought I didn't have any use for it.

But luckily before I donated it back to GW, I figured out what a dandy celery keeper it is. It's just the right height to hold a half stalk of celery, and it's the right configuration to hold the stalks upright. I just clean the celery, cut it in half, add an inch of water in the bottom, and it stays fresh a long time. I just have to remember to change the water every few days. I usually just do that whenever I get the celery out to use it so it's not a big deal to remember.

Interesting tip. However, if celery starts to go limp I just throw it in the next batch of soup.
